Cup Contender next year

Created by: peezyfbaby
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2021
Published: Mar. 13, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rakell trade might be difficult but a Lind or Dipietro could be included in lieu of or on top of a McDonough type of prospect that comes along with a Lotto 1st. Strong team that could contend for a cup in year 1 and will have lots of cap space in 2022-2023 to load up before Miller and Bo contracts expire.

I see that you gave up a 1st, 3rd and McDonough to dump two players, so what are you giving up for Rakell?

I mean that will never get you Rakell- a dozen contending teams will top that. I have no idea why the leafs would ever do the Holtby trade- they have a competent GM that understands what save percentage is. Moreover, I don't know how you could seriously say this team is a cup contender with that defense.

Leafs would be dumb to do that Holtby trade.... plus they are moving salary the other way in any trade they make.

ya i just was looking at teams who might need a backup for 1 year. We are retaining half the salary, just need a team who wants a 2M backup for 1 year. I'm sure there will be someone.

Just used the leafs since anderson coming off books, it could be any team looking for a backup at around $2M. For Rakell, I'm sure there is but not sure who would be giving up a lotto pick like the nucks. Contender is a late 1st and you will have to take back salary in that deal too. We are in a flat cap pandemic, dollars in and out matter no matter what.

Sorry I missed that it was this year's 1st. I thought it was the cup run pick. I would not do that if I was Vancouver- the pick is too high. I think the Miller trade was really good for Vancouver. I think the trade takes a hit if TB/NJ got this year's pick instead. And I don't think Rakell is better than Miller.

So now that I write through it, I could see good old Jimmy Benning doing this. I just would not.

If I'm Ottawa I'm asking for that to be your 2022 2nd rounder instead. If YES, they accept.

Anaheim wouldn't currently* trade Rakell for a 2021 first (presumably top-three protected) and a B prospect, so adding in two significant cap dumps too is just silly.

* things might be different on draft day, when the actual position of the pick would be known.
