Description
So Minnesota fans probably don’t like Strome and Chicago fans probably think Greenway isn’t the winger they want. And this would probably require a Dumba trade to be in the works for the expansion draft and there are some cap issues from the Minnesota side.

But Chicago apparently wants another NHL winger and Minnesota needs a center. They are the same age and on similar contracts. From the Minnesota perspective, I think Strome is the kind of center that can help get Fiala going. You could make arguments that Chicago needs to add or Minnesota needs to add so I’ll leave it as a 1 for 1.

This is a really interesting idea. I think it's a fair trade. Greenway has been fantastic this year and I think he will have the better career, but Strome plays a more valuable position. Ultimately I don't think we do this because Guerin wanted Greenway to step up and he has, so the optics would be poor. But I like the idea a lot.

On pairing him with Fiala, I'm not sure that would work. Strome has decent straight line speed but everything else about his skating is really poor. Fiala creates chances with his skating so it might be a mismatch, but I could be wrong since you pointed out he played well with Kane. If we did this I'd imagine we'd pair him with Zucc and Kap since they are succeeding with a poor skater in Rask.

Yeah, his skating is not great but I’m interested in him for his hands and skill play. He would do much more for Fiala by being a better supporting playmaker while in the O zone, throw Hartman on the wing and there’s your speed on the rush. We’ve become accustomed to thinking two way play is a requirement but the KK Zucc line is showing that dominating possession in the O zone is fine too. And that’s what I want in the top 6.

I agree with you that the optics aren’t ideal and if this were to go through, the Wild would need to win it obviously. Like add a 2nd coming back with Strome and that’s just not happening.

I have nothing against anybody. Greenway, Dumba, or any other player. I made this because I had an idea of how the Wild could improve at an area they don't have lots of talent at by expending resources they have a lot of, being wingers. And apparently Chicago fans want to trade Strome for a winger. In order to get anything of value, you have to give something of value. Its ok to not like Strome, he's not a no brainer kind of player but I think it makes some sense for the WIld. And I think about expansion and future contracts because that is how a GM has to think.

End of the day, Minnesota needs centers. Minnesota has a lot of wingers. It makes sense to trade a winger for a center in that regard.

I understand your point, but apparently from all reports Guerin isn't worried about expansion at all. Can very easily see Guerin paying Seattle to take soucy so calen Addison can be called up

Also the cap isn't a problem for wild. I think fans in any sports worry too much about this compared to GM's

The thing you are also forgetting is Guerin refused to trade anything for better players in Sean Monahan, & Trocheck

Also it's been reported that if wild keep winning, he isn't breaking up this team meaning he's not trading free agents to be either which make alit of sense

You don't mess with Chemistry.

I read the athletic too. I’m not posting this as though the trade is gonna be made this afternoon, I’m asking whether this is 1.) a reasonable trade value and 2.) whether it makes sense for the Wild.
