Different take

Created by: HabsFan33
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 17, 2021
Published: Mar. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Maybe not a great team but I think over an 82 games season, they could be very competitive. And leaving $2M in cap space gives them a little flexibility come trade deadline to add depth.

Just a different take on the Habs for 2021-22.

Tampa may not want to do this but they'll need to shed cap space at some point. Getting Byron saves them a $1M and his speed could fit well with them.

Sorry, Tampa won't be Montreal's dumping ground for Byron.

Yes I did in the sense I didn't sign him to his entry level contract but no I didn't as it pertains to him being in the NHL next year. Although he may be tearing it up in college, I don't see him having remotely the same impact in Montreal next year. IMO, he'll need one full year in Laval to learn to be a pro and if miraculously, he tears it up in AHL, you can call him up during the season. I think Habs fans should prepare themselves for a slight bust in Caufield. I highly doubt he will be able to score 20 goals consistently at the NHL level. Obviously, it's way too early to right him off but the amount pressure they will put on him will be too much to bear. I just don't see anything in his game (beside his shot) that leads me to believe he'll be a star in the NHL. But hey, I hope I'm wrong!

Alex Debrincat, who is roughly the same size, made the jump from the OHL straight to the NHL. The NCAA is a tougher league in the sense that Caufield was playing against people older than him (i.e. 23 vs 20) while Debrincat was one of the older players in the O. He can and he will make the team next year, he would be taking Tatar's "spot".

no way tampa takes on byron, Killhorn's salary is only about 1M more, so they're not saving much and losing offence
