You can't just put a guy on LTIR cause you think he sucks, you have to have a doctor sign off saying he is going to be out 10 games or 30 days minimum. This was argued earlier, no doctor is going to risk losing his medical license and standing with the league and PA just to help the Leafs circumvent the cap. Also the Leafs are not going to try to circumvent the cap because the penalties if caught are more severe than what Arizona got for testing before the combine.

He also said he was able to play through it. LTIR is restricted to players who are "unfit" to play. Meaning they can not play through the injury. Trying to circumvent the cap by placing him on LTIR is not a great idea.
