Chicago falls out but its worth it

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2021
Published: Mar. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this scenario Chicago falls out of the playoffs, and wins the lottery to move up to number 1 overall. I'd say the hawks win as the 11th or 12th worst team pts% wise. They drop so much, relative to their current position because they sell a decent amount at the deadline.

Yes, but it's complicated because of offseason cap vs in season cap. With shaw likely retiring and Seabs out our Cap in the off season is almost 10 million less than all the other team's.

Seems very hopeful to suggest they could and should go for it with aging stars, relying so much on a 20ish year Power, Lankinen aside the G group is still meh...

I'd put their next window at 2025 and yes indeed:

Im not suggesting JT and 88 will be part of that

      Maybe in reduced ancillary roles?

Tough to do part 2 of an era

I would love for this all to happen. Owen Power is what the young Blackhawks defense corps needs, a true number one like Hedman. If they don't land Power, hopefully, a combo of Regula and Vlasic will fill the big boy defender bill.

There's absolutely no way they're going to be able to trade Seabrook's contract without giving up a major young piece like Dach. When Seabs announced his playing career was over, Lazarus and Powers from The Athletic inquired with a source about what it would cost the Blackhawks for Seattle to take on the Seabrook contract and the quote was something like, "An opening offer from the Blackhawks of Dach and DeBrincat would be the starting point." Plus, they'd have to add some picks. No team is taking on bad money without huge compensation with the flat cap.

It's incredibly rare that a 1st year defensive prospect steps into the NHL and only the best prospects (elite level) pull that off such as Dahlin and even then they usually don't look great and Dahlin didn't. Power is not touted as elite, none of the 1st round picks this year are.
