It was a dumb trade by Philadelphia in the first place.

A cap dump?? Streit is a FA after the year. Maybe if you take MacDonald for Streit. Even then your not getting a 1st round pick

One of the very few trades/drafting/UFA/coaching/executive signings that Brian the Brain Burke did right for the Leafs.
JVR has been very consistent in his point pro rated over the past four years, about 60 points.
Might be fair value in trade, but the Leafs and Flyers are in a virtual tie for the 8th playoff spot. Leafs dilemma, stay put or trade for futures ( which may or may not be NHLers)

JVR would work well with G and Jake. I think something like Sanheim and a 3rd would be better for the Leafs. Streit would likely only waive his NMC for a contender.

The word out there is that the asking price for JVR is very similar to Kessel. His 4.25 million dollar contract is what teams are looking at happily and he's very talented, being one of the highest scoring wingers in the league since coming to the Leafs in 2012, so I don't think it's outrageous to see a package including a first, a cap dump and a prospect or two. The Leafs got Harrington, Kapanen, a first, a third and Spaling for Kessel, Erixon and a second. The sooner this trade is made the more valuable JVR is. So I see Philly possibly adding to this, especially if the Leafs are taking on a contract like Streit - although I doubt he'd want to come to Toronto. That's my opinion on the trade. I could see it possibly being Weiss or Schultz instead of Streit

Stone: That first rounder almost looked like a non playoff pick till Pens caught fire and won the Cup. That pick got Leafs about half of Andersen.

I know you are trying to convince yourself of Streit being a cap dump but it isn't. He's a UFA after the season so his cap comes off the books anyway. The only way I'd entertain this trade is if the Flyers were getting a 2nd round pick back, or if AMac was included in this deal - which would be a real cap dump not a cap dump for half a season and losing a 1st rounder over.

Sanheim and two 2nd's may be better. Or maybe Sanheim, Laughton, a 2nd, and a 5th. No way we give up a top 15 pick, our only RHD prospect, and anyone on our weak blue line for a dude that might not resign in a year.
