Hopeful Trade Deadline

Created by: digitalbath
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2021
Published: Apr. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is assuming players come back from LTIR and can be traded, which may not happen. I understand this is hopeful, but if you come in and immediately say "TEAM DECLINES" then suggest a more fair trade, because Detroit isn't going to just eat bad contracts and trade decent players for 7th round picks and future considerations..
Trades
1.
DET
  1. Andersen, Frederik
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Im aware Campbell has been great, but I believe TOR still wants safety in net, Bernier is outperforming Andersen but most important. This trade gives TOR 3.5M in cap space to get more help for a cup run, whilst not giving up any 1st round picks, or top prospects.
TOR
  1. Bernier, Jonathan ($1,500,000 retained)
2.
DET
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Glendening, Luke
Additional Details:
No Glendening isn't great but he is underrated IMO. If anyone is going to give up a 3rd or better it would be Ken Holland. No salary retained. Just remember the percentage of players from the 3rd round to become regular NHL'rs is low, if EDM is going for a cup this is low risk for a bottom 6 guy who wins faceoffs and back checks hard.
3.
DET
  1. Luostarinen, Eetu
  2. 2021 4th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Another team poised for a cup run with some need on D. Marc Staal is not a top pairing guy, but he's a decent number 4, with 50% salary retained I think a prospect who hasn't even played in the NHL is not even in FLA top #5 prospects and a 4th seems pretty fair.
FLA
  1. Staal, Marc ($2,850,000 retained)
4.
DET
  1. Bolduc, Samuel
  2. Holmström, Simon
  3. Ladd, Andrew
Additional Details:
This one might be a little tough and your immediate reaction would ne "NO" .. However, think about it this way, you are not giving up Dobson, Whalstrom, Sorokin, Wilde or ANY draft picks.. while clearing Ladd's awful contract. Picking up some help for a cup run on the cheap and can let them walk after the year and keep the cap room. Gives Isles a lot of flexibility

(would also consider swapping Nemeth for Merril if you wanted the cheaper option, IMO Nemeth is a little better, and potentially swapping Bolduc for Wilde)

How do you figure? Hes played less than 10 NHL games and has 1 point? He may never even play here at all. Its a risk

I don’t think you will get a 2nd and a 3rd for bernier. But I don’t think that makes much of a difference. I like the move but I think dubas sticks with Andersen.

You may be right he could, but I think he wants to add somewhere else and simply can not afford it, This would be the easiest way to clear some cap, who else would they want to shed money with if not Andersen?

I agree, I think it is the right move. I think the team, staff and front office still have faith in Andersen to come back and be the starter.

Luostarinen has played 39 games this season and has 8 points
Great 2 way centerman who is only 22

Marc Staal is a bad defenseman on a bad contract

I didnt realize he had put in so much time this season, so im wrong there, but 9 points in 50 games still doesnt prove hes a "great centerman" and saying marc staal is bad is simply wrong, i know he isnt a top 2 pairing, and 5.7m is a bad contract, which is why at 2.85 hes fairly paid and a solid 4 man where there have no Eckblad i still think this is pretty fair.

i don't think any team is going to pay that much for marc staal, even if he is retained
I mean for god's sake, NYR had to PAY detroit a 2nd to take his contract
why would another team give you a 2nd for him?

They paid to take 5.7 off their cap, and then he came to DET and played well, and according to many sites there is interest in him at 50% contract

to me its easy to understand in numbers,

5.7 is crazy for Marc Staal.. 2.85 is very affordable for a 2nd pairing veteran defender, I would entertain a different prospect, but to assume absolutely no one is interested in Staal im calling false.

I like your logic for trading Bernier to the Leafs but I think we would rather hold on to Anderson put him on LTIR on the trade deadline day for the cap space

But hell be back before playoffs begin so what do you do with the cap then? I understand just hanging on to him and not giving up any assets but how do you get help in other areas with no money?

He's probably healthy to play today but for cap implications and piss poor performance I think that's why he is being locked away. So even if he would be back before the playoffs the leafs can afford to sit on him... God I hate how the NHL Salary cap works

I mean thats ideal to "sit him" but they cant circumvent the cap like that if hes healthy, which he will be, so under that assumption the Leafs can not afford to take on any additional players, I really think Dubas is in a position to upgrade as much as possible without giving up 1sts and top prospects to hang with Tampa and give these guys a run, theyre paying 4 forwards too much to not see results by now. The division set up helps them dramatically so if they have a shot, now is the time to load up.

I do like the Toronto trade a 2nd and 3rd is pretty fair since Detroit is clearing cap by taking Anderson and retaining on Bernier.

I'm surprised LGD to Edmonton hasn't happened already.

I really don't know if the NYI does this with the moves they have already made. But I do like Bolduc.

For sure this is on the hopeful end, there's been many trades I've built trying to get Dobson, but I know there is no way we get him. We could retain on Nemeth but i dont think that would be the hold up, just really does Nemeth move the needle enough to part with prospects?

Bolduc has surpassed Wilde so swap them and it'd make more sense tbh. Also don't know how much interest Isles have in another D when they have Hickey who's been fine when he's in and Aho who's good offensively but can't play D which is still fine as #8 on the depth chart. Trading Ladd seems more like a thing that'd be done in the off season to me.

A third for Glendenning is a bit too much for a player of that caliber - would you accept a 4th and Turris? The Oilers need money to go out in order to make the deal work.

Colorado could be a landing spot for Nemeth he use to play for them. Plus I've seen in a few ACGMs done by Colorado fans. As a solid stay at home defenseman that is familiar with the system and players he would add some depth to their D. With only about $800K left on his contract he also is pretty cheap as well,

I'doubt it considering I'm probably the only Wings fan here that thinks Turris could help Detroit. I really don't think a 3rd is all that much really. He is fine playing in only defensive situations and he works his ass off and he still has some wheels left most of his goals are breakaways. Plus a lot of coaches would like to have a guy that wins 2 out 3 of the face-offs he takes.

I always find it hilarious that people are talking about Freddy like he's washed and forgot how to hockey. He is/was injured. He'll be back to his normal self I'd bet. I'd rather just trade a 3rd for Bernier (cause yes that's his value) for an insurance policy if Freddy takes longer to come back.

But you’re not understanding Toronto doesn’t have that money. If you point out someone you want to shed to expel money I would take them instead of Freddy. I am doing this to help Toronto. It is widely speculated Toronto is not attempting to bring Andersen back anyway. So take the cap space. Make another trade and stock up for a run.

Leafs need Freddy until Woll and/or Scott are ready to take over. They'll sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal at like 3-4 mill. Definite pay cut. Leafs have enough space to add a forward or they wouldn't of worried abut scratching Lily and Brooks instead of taxi squad.

A goalie doubtful.
A defensemen I'm hoping for 1.
A forward guaranteed.

VV we just got and he hasn't even played yet. I'd play him before I get another goalie.
