Who is this teams leader

Created by: LGR
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 22, 2021
Published: Apr. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a problem Ive had with the rangers since the rebuild began. Who is this teams leader? I dont think they have one.

Kreider is the longest tenured Ranger and can be brilliant when he is on. The problem is he is a ghost 70% of the season. Im sorry I want my captain and leader to be consistent, go to guy

Zibanejad shows no emotion. He loves to smile when they are winning but when they are losing he looks completely checked out. Anyone that is as terrible as he is at faceoffs shows that a level of compete just isn't there.

Trouba seems like a good dude and well respected. Only problem constantly makes poor hockey choices and makes at least 1 play a game that leaves me wondering if hes playing for the other team.

Panarin is an absolute beast and a superstar. Im not sure how good his English and isn't fired up when they are loosing.

Non of these guys have the IT factor in terms of who is their leader.

Look at BOS, WASH, PIT, CHI and who are there big game players? Bergeron, Crosby, Ovi, Backstrom, Kane, Toews.

Do the rangers have anyone as special as these players in their lineup right now? Maybe Laf but who knows.

I think we need to bring in some character guys this off season with Stanley cup pedigree. Right now they have alot of really talented complimentary pieces but they are missing a key piece. A leader.

I hate it when fans do this, how do you pretend to know what players are like in the locker room. We cant expect to know who the leader is just by watching the games and the small clips afterward

Zibby isn’t checked out, he’s distracted. He is so hard on himself and is always focused on trying to be perfect and worrying about when he isn’t. It’s great if you play golf/tennis/etc. But he doesn’t seem like a 30M soccer player who just missed a shot by 40 yards and only focusing on the next shot.

Panarin doesn’t get “fired” up, he just stays focused, calm and never gets upset. That is composure at its best. Seems like the best fit but he isn’t about to pull a messiah if that’s what you’re looking for.

Laf/fox might be the guy in a few years time

If someone who watches every game for years doesn't know who their leader is that is a problem.

Look at the most recent Stanley Cup winners. They have all had "the guy" this team doesn't. (maybe the blues didn't have the guy but Pietraneglo was great and so was ROR)

Of course. But look who is making big money long term. Trouba Chris and Bread. And Mika will be up for extension next.

Also what is this teams culture? All skill and constantly trying to make the most beautiful looking goals. I want to see some fight out of a young and upcoming team. Tonight was embarrassing. Fire DQ and change the culture

As @Kravtsov_Stan pointed out. We don’t need a guy today, we aren’t competing. This is season and tweak time. How many guys are wearing the A? I would say it’s safe to say they all lead behind the scenes as well as on the ice. No need to panic

From all the interviews I've seen the team loves Trouba and really respects him, its Hard for Panarin with the language barrier but there is a lot of Russians on this team and they love him, and Mika seems like a great leader for reasons @NYR1983 pointed out, also if you want "the guy" its Laf, Panarin, and Fox. The leader doesn't have to be the best player either, look at Zdeno Chara, not the best Player but he was the leade of the 2019 Bruins

Bring back Johnson and Bitetto, there's all kinds of leadership between those two defensive studs!

Stanley cup teams are typically the most talented team in the league so I’d rather them build on their talent than run around trying to be Tom Wilson for 60 mins. As the youth gains size and strength you will see more control with physicality and skill.

I am pissed because tonight was embarrassing. Zero fight back (no that bread goal at the end doesn't count). There season was on the line and they were taking horrible penalties and completely emotionless. Same as last game. I need to see fight in this team. When the games matter most (bubble last year) the biggest ghosts on the team happened to be wearing the Letters on their jersey

Tonight’s loss was the reality check that we will miss playoffs.. we were supposed to.. we had a rough start full of drama and then pulled of an amazing 25 game run. Next season we can replicate those 25 games into a 82 game season, make playoffs and learn what it’s like for the kids to play in post season nhl. After that we will see a solid window of years where we are one of a handful of contenders

We know who the leaders are because the media tells us, or they have a letter on their sweater.

As a bruins fan, i don’t think we would know Bergeron is such a great leader if it wasn’t reported. He keeps things pretty quiet.

DQ needs to be fired for this to be a reality. He is a joke of a coach that has zero system in place. The system is a pass first mentality and be allergic to grinding play. Also his personnel decisions are cause for concern to say the least

Hes also won a Stanley Cup so he instantly has respect from these guys. I dont think there is a single ranger that has his name on the cup which is a big problem

They were talking about his leadership long before that. Adding a cheap vet might be the way to go for the rangers.

Don't under-sell Bergeron so much...he's been a leader since Day-1 Jr. by his PLAY & it's as plain as the bent-nose on his face...

1-time U20 WJC Gold Medal 1
1-time World Championship Gold Medal 1
2-time Olympic Gold Medal 2
1-time Triple Gold Club 1
1-time World Cup Gold Medal 1
1-time NHL Foundation Player Award 1
1-time NHL Leadership-Humanitarian Award (King Clancy Trophy) 1
1-time NHL Stanley Cup Champion 1
4-time NHL Top Defensive Forward (Frank J. Selke Trophy) 4

Re-draft of 1985 and he jumps 37 places to #1.

Uhhh, ya, he’s an awesome player. Never said he wasn’t. If there was no media covering hockey and there wasn’t a C on his chest we wouldn’t know he’s a great leader. He’s not barking at teammates or anything visible. What happens happens away from cameras. I think you must have missed some context of other comments maybe?

Leading is not all about shouting in some guys ear to pick up his game. It's doing it 24/7, 365, collapsed lung or rung bell, 1st line or 4th...
Bergeron was why Joe was traded; he had IT and Jimbo didn't...
