I think there would be a younger D man in that trade than Tanev, probably one of Andersson or VAlimaki. Second part is that Buffalo does not get a C in return, from what I have read Reinhart just doesn't cut it. Third you would have to pay Tkachuk 9 million a year because of his qualifying offer.

Tkachuk will take the shortest contract to UFA and walk. And I don't think you would get both Tkachuk and Tanev

The closest thing cbj has to a 1C and you traded him for a cap dump bottom 4 dman.

Also Buffalo is heavily adding to the Arizona trade

I would agree but Tanev is one of the top 2 D on Calgary. I would be fine with a top pair D. Reinhart absolutely does cut it. The people that say he doesn't are off their rockers. 16 games at C this season he has 10 goals and 15 points. He's also played well defensively. Lastly, you only have to pay him that much if it goes to qualification. He can sign for anything at anytime after July 27th this year when the next "season" starts.

Why would Tkachuk want out so quickly?

Really good team, I can't see the Risto trade happening but otherwise these trades are pretty balanced.

Not a cap dump but yeah I realize the ludicrous nature of the CBJ trade... Also, Garland and Olofsson are nearly equivalent point production. I agree that Garland is better which is why I traded for him but I wouldn't say "adding heavily".

To the point of signing Tkachuk, if he has a shot at 9 million next year I think it would be tough to convince him to sign for less but I get your point. That's awesome about Reinhart, I have always liked him as a player and a guy I would be over the moon to see on the Flames.

So you think this team would still be crappy? The fact is they haven't had an NHL goalie except for Ullmark and the terrible coaching... Plus Eichel being hurt and unable to shoot even when he was playing... This year's team had all the excuses and yet they've actually been really good since the coaching change... It's refreshing to see some light at the end of the tunnel

Yeah I can see why he would take 1 year at 9 million and run to free agency... but he wasn't worth it this season and if he has a similar production season next year then he's looking at like 5 million in free agency like Hall will be next year... Getting 7.5 x 5 right now is the safe bet for him and it only takes him to 29 where he can cash in on another deal wherever he wants at that time. I take 7.5 x 5 over 9 x 1 every day of the week and twice on Sunday when I'm coming off a down year.

    Value aside

Tanev declines and Tkachuk will take his qualifying offer of 9M at minimum

Thats not how that works, you must submit the qualifying offer to a RFA as per their rights in the CBA

Mitts was actually payed exactl what his QO allowed, 105% of base salary in final year of contract (832,500) for contracts under 1M
