Description
Losing Dumba for nothing but cap savings would be a huge mistske! This is what I would (try to) do...

Tuukka Rask can be any reliable veteran goalie.

If BG can’t persuade Parise and/or Suter to waive their NMCs, I would give Seattle the option to choose two of these three guys to protect Dumba and Foligno.

So the cost for protecting Dumba....

Alex Tuch
Erik Haula
Jordan Greenway
Cam Talbot

He's not worth that much!!! If you traded Dumba and got any two of those pieces back you'd feel like you won the trade.

Addison is waiting in the wings. It's time to let Dumba go.

Any combination of two of: Greenway, Talbot or Soucy is an overpay imo to Protect Dumba and a lesser extent Foligno (I don't see him being taken over Soucy or Talbot or any of the younger forwards)
Trade Dumba somewhere for a return and go the 7-3-1 route and assume Seattle takes Soucy or Talbot.
I would consider paying Seattle something like Soucy + a wing prospect, but not sure that would be enough.

The rumor has been lately Seattle is selecting Soucy

Wild don't need to keep/ paying to protect a player in dumba whose very turnover prone, & reckless on ice in turn of losing games for wild

Calen Addison is waiting, & will take over with if one of dumba or soucy are selected

You can’t use Tuch and Haula in this equation...that’s history.

The biggest issue, IMO, on the eventual decision on Dumba is whether or not they can afford to re-sign him in 2 years...which will be very challenging as the roster is currently constructed.
However, I believe Dumba is one of the 5-6 players on this team that has what it takes to really dictate the outcome of a grueling 7 game series. In no particular order, The others on this list are: Fiala and Kaprizov (obviously), Dumba, Ek, Greenway, and Foligno...and possibly Brodin. I argued for a couple of years that Dumba should be a bigger part of the Wild’s future than Spurgeon and I still believe this to be true...because of (his age) but mostly because Dumba is a unique set of skills: speed, strength, tenacity, shot, and also his ability to agitate! In my humble opinion, he is made for playoff hockey. Most of the Wild’s failures in the playoffs has been due to the lack of players wired for the playoffs and I want a team built differently than many...and Dumba would be a huge part of my plan.

Any chance Seattle takes Zuccarello??
I really dont want Wild to lose Soucy tbh.

Do you have any doubts on Rossi due to his deal cov19? Has things improved drastically?
Last I heard it was pretty bad.

Zuccarello also has a NMC so he will be protected.

Rossi is getting better. If there is one player I would bet on to fully recover from what he’s going through, it woukd be Marco Rossi!

smile I CAN count Tuch and Haula. They are still assets we lost for him. I imagine you think that was worth it too, given his position in your plans? So why can't I count them?

Even if I stick to your premise, Greenway + Soucy/Talbot is too much to give up. Soucy + Talbot for Dumba is just barely equal value, but still seems tilted in the Kraken's favor to me.

I just can't see protecting him that much in my final analysis. Also, I think we'll need his 6M cap hit elsewhere.
