Vancouver accepts, where can we sign this deal?

I am iffy on Dunn. If Butcher won’t fit our system, I worry Dunn could fall into same doghouse. Otherwise like it.

Would the Canucks be willing to give up a first? 2022 or 2021?

Would Martinez be a better option?

Probably trade the 2 seconds for the 2022 1st

I don't think Edmonton includes a 1st in that deal. There's simply no pressure on them to shed the cap hit. They can buyout Neal for a $1.9M cap penalty, this deal see's them giving up a 1st and taking back $1.7M worth of suckage. Why give up a 1st for a mere $200k?

I think the oilers would do this. Given the cost of salary retention and Johnnson would be ok for that price. Also then Neal's cap hit is gone instead of taking up $1.9 for 4 years and the first will likely be 20th or lower.

Back off Adam Larsson though... he's staying in Edmonton, you can't have him back. We already gave you Hall one for one...

The things I would do for Vancouver’s 2022 1st...
Taking these two contracts would certainly fit.

Hmmm. I agree with @rpain that the Oilers should do this trade. Johnsson is a significant upgrade over Neal and the Oilers save cap space.

I don't see him as a significant upgrade at all, and the Oilers don't have a cap space issue. They'd be better off buying out Neal and signing a better UFA and keeping their 1st.

Chiasson plays the net front role on the PP just as well as Neal for a fraction of the price and holds his own better at even strength. If I could make a deal like this, with the retained salary for Johnsson you're getting a bottom 6 forward for less than the dead cap space that Neal was bought out for and only 2 years instead of 4. And yes... the Oilers do have a cap space issue.

What you're suggesting here is paying a 1st for a bottom-6 forward and $200k savings - that's incredibly bad asset management. And the Oilers DON'T have cap issues for the next 2 years.
