Koskinen has started 24 games this season. In half of them he's posted a .912sv% or above. He hasn't been terrible all season, you just don't watch the games or can't form opinions beyond the headlines that Spector and Staples produce. Koskinen's numbers are skewed from having to play 12 games in 24 nights to start the season when Smith was hurt. That's never been a load he can properly manage. This isn't new. In a tandem situation - like we've seen from Smith's return - Koskinen is a very capable goaltender at the NHL level.

It aggravates the hell out of me too when he lets in the first shot, but we've seen this from Oiler goaltenders before. I genuinely think it has a lot more to do with our coaching staff: Tippett and Schwartz are doing something wrong and it's preventing him from being ready on time. I'm more willing to single out the goalie coach here: seeing the same thing out of Talbot when he was in town or Hart this season (he trains with Carter in the offseason) makes me very, very suspicious. It wouldn't surprise me that those same first-shot goals he's been letting in this season has his teammates down on him a bit. That's on them though, not Koskinen. Tippett needs to stamp that crap out in case they're forced to rely on Koskinen for the playoffs should Smith get hurt.

It's McDavid and Draisaitl cause without them they're a lottery team, but after that I'd say Smith or Nurse
