weegar > chychrun.

Definitely an arguement to be made. Weegar really showed how good he is when Ekblad went down and he was able to step into that number 1 D role and excel.

Idk lol I've gotten different answers for pretty much every option, kind of shows that all these players have been fairly comparable this year.

weegar > chychrun.

There is no argument for that. Chychrun is better. Weegar is good though

LOL I mean your opinion holds no more weight then everyone else's on here. Tell me why current Guentzel isn't comparable to current Ovi? As you said that wasn't even close.

weegar is possibly the best defensive defenseman in the NHL, or the 2nd best analytically behind tanev
Chychrun has more points, but he gets meaningful PP time
27 ES points chychrun, 0 SH points
31 ES points weegar, 2 SH points
Weegar 24 seconds of PP time per game, Chychrun has 2 minutes 44 seconds
Weegar leads NHL defenseman in takeaways, if you want to look at a more concrete stat, plus he has great stickhandling, smooth skating, high defensive and offensive IQ

I don’t care for analytics. Weegar is not the best defensive d man in the nhl.

I think a lot of guentzel’s success can be attributed to his center.

No point in trying, he's not an analytics believer. He has the never seen before ability to catch everything that happens in the game of hockey, and because he says so, Chychrun is better, as his opinion is the be all end all for evaluating players.

He is the 2nd best defensive defenseman in the NHL, and he has regular statistics to prove it, not to mention advanced stuff which you dont care about
Most takeaways, 2nd highest +/- in the NHL with 53% of his starts being in the defensive zone, doing all of this while playing with Gustav Forsling in the 2nd half of the season
55.8% corsi, 56.5% fenwick (NOT an advanced stat),

There’s no stat to tell how good a d man is defensively.

No. Weegar is not the second best defensive d man in the NHL. And he isn’t in chychruns league.

Because he’s not. You can’t watch that guy and say, “second best defensive d man in the league right there!”

1. Sebastion Aho | Brayden point is a great scorer and all, but look, he plays with the best offensive team in the NHL and is bound to play good. Sebastion Aho gets taken in the 2nd round, kills it in the u20 world juniors, comes directly to the Hurricanes where he would be a solid point-per-game scorer and great two way forward leading the Hurricanes.

2. Ovechkin | This one doesn't really need any conversation, Ovi is the greatest goal scorer of all time

3. Landeskog | Yes Landeskog plays next to Rantanen and Mackinnon, but he's proven he's a great player without them in his first 2 seasons in the NHL, having won the Calder. Kane is a great player can't deny it, but he isn't as good as Landeskog and his antics cause stupid penalties.

4. Bjorkstrand | Now this will sound Controversial, but Bjorkstrand is better than Oshie. Bjorkstrand recorded 44 points in 56 games on a columbus team that couldn't even gather 20 wins on the season and has been their best scorer while Oshie couldn't amount to that in the last 2 seasons on a no doubt better team in skill and depth.

5. Perron | Buchnevic has never in his career been able to amount to the amount of productivity that Perron has, and Perron takes less penalties too.

6. O'Rielly | This one is a bit closer than the others, both players having won the Selke over Patrice Bergeron (Who has won the award 4 times, tied for the record, was 2nd both times) in the last 2 seasons. Couturier has never been as consistent as O'Rielly, in the last few seasons including this one. O'Rielly is a workhorse every night

7. Chychrun | This one you maybe could but up a small argument, but Chychrun is the better defenseman in all aspects, don't even look at the points for this one, Chychrun has been the best and most consistent player on the Coyotes every night, Weegar can't say the same on a stacked Panthers team.

8. Sergachev | This is a no brainer, though Martinez has had arguably the best season of his career, Sergachev has done better and has made a clear statement in his career that started on 2016 that he is a great defenseman.

9. Ekolm | Another easy pick, jake Muzzin, whose somewhat solid, is growing old and worse each season as Ekholm has aged like fine wine, bring a big physical presence with a great 2-way defensive ability.

10. I refuse to choose, I don't have any more time on my hands to do research and watch highlights on these 2 great rookie tendies, besides they've both only played 1 season starting.

Not saying I agree or disagree but I should've specified this is based on this year only. What Sergachev has done since 2016 or the fact Ovi is the greatest goal scorer of all time have nothing to do with who is currently the better player.

It's just extra to back up how good they still are. I said sergachev had been great since 2016 just to back up how solid he's been his whole career, he's still solid.
