Additional Details:
This one would be huge for Nashville and Montreal. Nashville essentially gets more cap space which they desperately need. In addition, Nashville's salary cap penalty from when they initially traded Weber would be eased as long as he retires as a Predator. For this, the habs also exchange their 2nd from Tampa for Nashville's 2021 first-round pick. It makes sense in that Nashville has no choice but to accept.

Why are we trading Kulak AND a pick for a washed-up James Neal not even worth half his contract

Your trading Marner this offseason, so you actually do have the cap space. Plus Holl, Amirov, Foligno, Simmons, Kerfoot, Engvall will all be gone. That's actually a lot of cap space plus we would retain his salary so you wouldn't have to pay the 5mil he is getting paid rn.

To then trade him for a 2nd. We won't actually play James Neal. It clears up cap space in the long run by giving him to Toronto. The Maple Leafs will probably need him and Chariot after they get rid of Marner,Holl, Amirov, Foligno, Simmons, Kerfoot, and Engvall this offseason.

James Neal has no value at all and is as effective as a 1m$ fourth-liner signed in free agency.

The Preds will give the Habs a 7th, if MTL fans stop pretending NSH has no choice but to accept whatever awful Weber trade they can dream up.

Correct, Maple Leafs lack depth even with all the players soon to be traded. He is exactly what they need, the only problem is his cap. We take care of that and throw Chariot in the deal. We can prob get a 2nd for Chariot and a 4th for Neal considering they don't even have a 3rd. Once they trade all those players, they will get a lot more draft picks. They need to trade the ones they got for depth players before then. I see what you're saying tho, its a long shot but I feel like it would be good for all three teams involved (Oilers, Habs, Leafs). Oilers get more cap space, we get more picks, and Leafs get more depth.

Like I said, it would actually help u long the run. You'd gain+1mil in cap space and you would no longer worry about that huge salary penalty once Weber retires. Duchane doesn't even match well with your team ... he played far better for literally every other team he's played on. Tbh he kinda sucks playing for Nashville. Montreal has the players to help him play better. It's a win-win for both teams in the long run. it just looks ridiculous at first glance until u dive in deeper, then it actually makes sense.

Even with retention, Drouin is a net-negative. I think it would require more from MTL

Might wanna check your math before you posted this. Duchene's cap hit is $8,000,000 and Weber's is $7,857,143. That's only a difference of $142,857, not $1,000,000

Also false. Leafs have great depth actually and it was one of their strongest assets this season. That wasn't their issue. Their issue was the PP and top end offence not producing. Shanahan also said there's only be tinkering, but they're coming back with the majority of the roster. So their depth will still not lack next season. Also, Neal is basically a non option for most teams at this point. He has virtually no foot speed to keep up with the pace of play and all he has is a shot that seems to have gone missing. Leafs management has always made it a priority to get good skaters. Neal wouldn't even crack the Marlies lineup in Toronto. Chiarot wouldn't even crack the Leafs roster. So you're trying to give them players that they don't want or need for no reason.

Do your research next time first.

Well that's not true... Duchene was a very good player for NSH in transition and generating scoring chances. His issue was he didnt have the points to back it up, but considering majority of his season was paired with (Jarnkrok, Grimaldi, Haula, Cousins = total TOI 139.61). He played with Forsberg and Johansen last 4 games of playoffs where he really came into his own (only proving the face he needs to play with skilled wingers). The problem is NSH has two 8m centers who have struggled to produce points.

That being said, taking on Weber's contract doesn't help this team in the slightest. Large cap hit, decrease in performance, already have 3 RHD (2 of which are young and need the TOI).
NSH will eventually trade for Weber, but I doubt he will play any games as he will be a LTIR designation. When they do trade for Weber it will not be for a large return as some MTL fans might suggest.
