Montreal Trading up

Description
Is there a possible scenario where montreal trade up from 17 with drouin to get a top 10 player. I know this is a weaker draft but if MTL could put there hands on one of guenther Johnson Eklund or Sillinger it could be good for there future after losing tatar. They will need to sign a top 6 LW until a prospect is ready to take the spot. They have Toffoli, Lehkonen, Evans, Byron at LW so if they can sign a 2cnd line LW they will be all set. Can you imagine a Johnson-Suzuki-Caufield line...

So, is there a team who could be interested to trade down and take drouin as a compensation? I still think he can be an effective 50pts winger but just not in mtl

For starters Habs pick later than 17th every round they win I believe. So that diminishes the trade. Drouin could use a change of scenery but it’s starting to get old much like Domi. Not saying a team wouldn’t take a flyer on him but it could take an added sweetener to take on salary.

Vancouver my time might listen but the fans would go ape as they will on almost any move JB tries lol

Add Cale Fleury & it might make Jimbo take it. Force him aka gotta make him say yes. 9oa he’ll want. So that’s my counter & closes in on or close.

Like Nighthawks eluded to, with every round the Habs play thier pick goes down currently the pick is at 25, if they beat the Jets they will be at 29. So no there is almost no scenario where they can trade up without making another move first to get into the 12-17 range.

For OPs question about moving up, maybe but with Bergevin at the helm highly unlikely. He's usually staying put in the first and trading back in the second round, that's kind of his thing.

I mean ... We got Anderson in exchange for Domi so I don't think it diminishes his value in any way, same was said about Pacc and look what we got. Facts, there will always be players in search of a change of scenery so it shouldn't be tough to find a suitor to take on Drouin in exchange for a nother middle six winger in search of a new team or in a difficult contract situation like the Anderson trade.

Nobody is downgrading their pick to take on Drouin. He has zero value atp. You're best bet is to find another team with a player also needing a change of scenery

Are you sure about that? Cause like 2 years ago when the Avs lost in the second round against the sharks they still picked 16, I don’t know it there is any new rule?

Fleury Drouin 17th pick vs 9th I think ill do it. But like I said are you sure that our pick drop even of we won one round? I know if we beat the jets its gonna be like 28-29 but I think we still pick 17th right now

Reread the draft rules and it seems like you may be right, 17-28 are based on teams that make the playoffs but don't win their division or play in the conference finals. So in order for the pick to drop Montreal would have to make the next round.

Your pick only gets moved back if you make the conference finals. If the habs win against winnipeg the move to 28th. If they lose they pick 17th
