Securing a young dcore

Description
If you can pry Foote and a 1st or 2nd away from Tampa to take Johnson then use that pick as part of a package for fabbro Canucks would have a very solid young core 4 dmen to move forward with.

They would likely get caved in a bit this year but that's okay with me. They'd be well positioned for the future.

Schmidt for Debrusk seems like a reasonable base for a trade to me. Debrusk is out of favor in Boston and they could use another top 4 dmen as they continue to compete with Bergeron and Marchand over the next few years.

Canucks likely struggle again this season with this d core allowing them to add another high draft pick to the mix and then go after a free agent or two the following offseason to compliment this young core.

The value is probably fine on the Fabbro deal, I just don't see NSH doing it. If they trade Fabbro, I think it's for another good young forward of similar age, etc. If they do a sort of rebuild, those picks are nice -- but at the same time, if they're doing a rebuild then they're not trading Fabbro.

I think Tampa would prefer keeping Johnson than adding Ferland unless he stays on ltir for the remainder of his contract and never plays again. $1.5 mil in cap space doesn’t cost a 1st and Foote.

I'm pretty confident that Ferland will remain on LTIR for the rest of his career. This would certainly have to be the case or this is a non starter for Tampa yes.

When did DeBrusk fall out of favor in Boston?

His name has been circling around trade rumours all season long. He scored 5 goals this season and dropped from 27g two seasons ago to 19g last season. ATOI has dropped by over a minute this season too. Have also seen his compete level questioned a decent amount this season.

You would be selling super low on schmidt. I think you keep him and maybe only one of the young d moves

Ya I would like to get a pick back as well in this deal personally. I just don't like having Hughes Myers and Schmidt all making 6ish million because none of them are ideal partners for each other. Schmidt is moveable for a decent return. Myers probably isn't moveable.

The extent of his name being out there was Sweeney saying they had teams call on him but they weren't moving him unless a team basically overpaid. His ATOI went down because they slid him to the 3rd line and his compete level was questioned, but that doesn't mean he's fallen out of favor.

Don't forget the kid was on Covid Protocol twice and confirmed one time he had covid. He's so struggled with depression due to being a young single guy with no family or anyone to go home too. He also was asked to slide to RW this year so Ritchie could stay at LW.

Maybe out of favor isn't the right way to put it. But there is definitely enough there that it's not far fetched to think he could get moved this offseason.

Any player could be moved if the deal makes sense for a team. Is Boston shopping him? No. Would they move him if they felt the return would make them a better team? Sure, who wouldn't. You could say that about most players in the NHL though.

Okay but there is enough smoke behind him this season to suggest that he would be one of the more likely players to get moved on Boston.

Not sure why you're choosing to make this an argument. It's a pretty reasonable take.

Think JD has had a tough go 100% this yr but I'd still ride with him and his RFA-friendly status if I'm B's GM.

Schmidt's >US5.9Mil is not welcome in Beantown.
Whoda-thunk-it but BOS has one of the youngest D-cores in the biz!
They are currently up in a round-2 series & has key UFAs and future RFAs to consider; Rask, Krejci, Hall, Carlo, Reilly, Kuraly & then Bergy, McAvoy, DeBrusk the next season...

What smoke lol. The smoke created by click-bait writers that need to generate clicks and view to sell ad space? Could they move him? Sure, do I expect them to? Not unless hes in a deal that lands a legit young #3 that can play on the left side (Nate isn't that guy for Boston).

I'm not even arguing, just providing more context from someone who actually follows the team. I haven't even talked about Nate's nearly $6 million cap hit which doesn't help Boston bringing other key guys (Hall, Krejci, Rask) back or some of the extension (McAvoy, Carlo, Bergeron, Pastrnak) that are due in the next few years.
