Description

In this scenario I tried to not buyout anyone. If you buyout Neal and Koski you'll have 5M in dead cap for the next 2 years just from buyouts.

NJ - we take one less year of Subban which I think is better for us as we need to give Nurse and Pulju raises next year. He can play a similar role as Barrie mostly PP and he'll be sheltered by Nurse. NJD gets 2 picks and 3M in cap. Can also buyout Neal and will get 7M in cap

SEA - Leave Bear exposed so they take Koski at half price. I think it's better than buying him out, again, save money in 2022-23

VAN - might be a bit much for JJ. Will take 5th if it's too much

PIT - They only have one pick in the first 4 rounds. so they get a 3rd for taking on Kass. Might be able to make an impact there. Has the tools just no consistency. If VAN trade doesn't work just keep Kass. I left enough cap for that

Nuge - gave him 6 years so he can take a bit of a pay cut. I think 30Mx6 is reasonable

Saad - Might get more somewhere else but he gets to play with Connor here so maybe

Bjugstad - Could sign Getzlaf instead but I don't think he comes to here

All in all defense is a bit weak but we can upgrade in 2022-23 as we have a lot of cap space then too. Left 3M in cap in case Klef returns or if some UFAs cost a bit more

In a flat cap world, it will take more than just a 3rd to take on Kassian, especially considering the Pens have no use for him

I don't know if the Pens would be able to take on Kassian's contract with nothing going back. I am not the greatest fan of Kassian but I did recently read his name pop up in a pens article. Would you be willing to do a Zucker for Kassian a 2nd and/or a 3rd?

You staunchly wanted to avoid dead cap but then retained half on Koskinen then took on the equivalent of the 6M$ of dead money of Neal with Subban...
