Just thought it was interesting that two Dmen are up for the award. If one of them wins it'll be only the 2nd time since the 50's.

Excited to see Slavo there. From an unbiased standpoint, I think he should win.

Cause he doesn't take a lot of penalties and put up a ton of points. That's pretty much what the award is handed out for.

He's certainly got a strong case. For an effective, big minutes Dman to only have 2 PIMs is impressive.

Slavin should win it. Spurgeon 2nd and it can be anyone after that. Would have went with W. Karlsson personally.

“to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.” Not because he puts ton of points

I'm aware of the official definition, but look at the history of winners. For a good whle now, the vast, vast majority of the time it's handed out to a player with a f*ck ton of points and not a lot of penalties.

I mean it's also "combined with a high standard of playing ability", it's more about playing a lot and being good in those minutes. Anyways, I guess you can say that, they just look at the point totals like for the other trophies and vote.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I was just responding to the confusion of Matthews being nominated. Based on the way the award is historically voted on/handed out, I'd have been more surprised to not see his name here.

hope slavin wins, if matthews takes it then this award should be renamed you had a hart calibre season but no chance at the hart so here’s this one. my top 3 probably would be slavin, wild bill, and hintz, with spurgeon, gaudreau, and bailey as honourable mentions

Well he’s less gentlemanly because of having more pims and he has a lower “high standard of play” so what exactly makes you think he shoulda been nominated?
