Quoting: FrustratedToronto
That's the problem. He's not healthy. He has played a full-season worth of games (including last year which I'll give 68 as a "full-season") twice in the last six seasons. I'm generally really interested in Subban on Toronto, but it would be double-retained (with DET or OTT or some other team) and no way at the cost of a 1st. Now, as part of a bigger deal... Well, I like Wood, Zacha, and other pieces in NJD.
Subban is healthy. He has had one injury in last 4 seasons.
2017-18: Played all 82 games (finished 3rd in Norris voting)
2018-19: Missed 6 weeks with upper body injury (Nov - Dec 2018)
2019-20: Missed 1 game
2020-21: Missed two weeks due to being in COVID protocol
This year, he played 22:21 per night (2nd on Devils) and scored 5-14-19 in 44 games on a team that only scored only 145 goals (TOR scored 187, 29% more)
If his ice-time and share of points were the same, over 56 game season in Toronto, that would have been approximately 8-23-31 (2nd to only Rielly's 5-30-35).
Here's an idea...
TOR gives: Liljegregn to NJD, 2021 3rd to DET, 2022 1st to NJD
DET gives: Retains on Subban (50% retained, from $6m to $3m)
NJD gives: Subban (33% retained, from $9m to $6m), Miles Wood (50% retained, from $2.75m to $1.375m)
TOR gets: Subban at $3 million AAV ($667k real money), Miles Wood at $1.375m
DET gets: 2021 3rd round pick (TOR)
NJD gets: Liljegren, 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
