Detroit will say no for the following reasons:

1. Neal is not a useful player to Detroit.
2. Detroit already have 9 waiver eligible wingers penned in for next year + Raymond and Berggren.
3. Lagesson is not a useful player to Detroit.
4. There are at least 2 LD available on cap dump deals (Gostisbehere and Gardiner) where the seller will pay a lot more for Detroit to accept.
5. You don't get assets back when dumping cap.
6. Detroit already have 4 newly signed bluechip prospects on LD + two more still unsigned.

Maybe Detroit says no but they are 2-3 years from being a contender at minimum. They have cap room and a 2nd round pick is a fair return considering my proposal has the Oilers retaining on Neal. To say neither Neal or Lagesson are not useful players to a 2nd last place team is a laugh. They are placeholders....Lagesson is not a bad player and Detroit could get creative flipping Neal to another team or buy him out.

Detroit may have cap room but they don't have roster spots and there is a 50-contract limit in the NHL.

If they have a choice of two or more deals they will choose the deal that gets the best return, and by return means the most useful player, playing at the position where Detroit has the biggest need of help, and the best sweeteners.

Your offer will not make the top-10 in that competition.

That third line isn’t winning this team any games especially in the playoffs
