I agree with your take. I think Dougie is an unreal player but it just ties up too much money on the back end. I would love to sign him if we can move Myers out but I don't see that happening.

They’re a team looking to compete, even after losing Hamilton. They’ll need to replace him. Again, less than 0 chance they take Erikkson, it’s absurd

They took Marleau because they had the cap space to do so. They don’t have that luxury anymore

They did this in years where they were either rebuilding or at beginning of window when they had cap space. That’s not the case anymore - they don’t really have any bad contracts right now and they can use the cap space they’re saving on Dougie to address the gap he’s leaving as well as some other areas in need of improvement. Not to mention our young guns are starting to get their first real contracts so it’s just not feasible for them to do it.
