Byram shouldn't be offered up unless another equally talented young defenseman comes in return. For instance, Chychrun. Too much promise there and certainly not worth one year of Courturier.

Couturier will very likely re-sign with the Avs at a somewhat discounted rate to have a chance to win with the Avs. He's probably take $7 million to get it done and you know he's worth that. I'm not sure Couturier will stay in Philly since his chances of winning there during his career are dwindling.

Unfortunately, the year after Couturier's contract begins Mac is up as well as Newhook (Byram too assuming he isn't traded). We don't know what Makar and Grubauer will be paid yet and Landy is up this year.

I'm not sure what the Avs would commit to Grubauer. They can't do over $6 millon per.

I think this is a smart move for Vegas and Philly.

6x6 is likely. Based on Markstrom and Binnington

All that for 1 year of Couturier? No way

Wouldn't you assume Coots would love being on a perennial contender AND on a team with some of the top players in the league? I would guarantee an extension would come immediately for him and you guys have plenty of cap room.

I know he had a great season but the Avalanche may very well end up regretting that commitment.

No why would I assume he would extend? That completely changes the value of the trade and you never know whether or not a new player will enjoy being on a new team

If he does then great, but theres no reason to overpay for 1 year just in hopes that the player you get in return will extend. Maybe he wants to test free agency to get the highest bidder, then the Avs would be out Byram + Jost + 1st and have nothing to show for it after 1 year. Thats terrible asset management

No worse than the Blues. Grubauer has had 2 really good seasons and one great one now along with 3 really good playoffs. Obviously the big factor is age though and maybe 6x6 is out of the question

Couturier agrees to extension as part of trade. Let's assume that occurs.

I don't think the Blues should be the comparison. Especially since Binnington won a cup. The overpayment for the top prize is much more warranted.
