Trades

TOR
  1. Deangelo, Anthony ($2,400,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Why this makes sense for Toronto:

1. I know Deangelo has had issues with coaches and teammates recently and in the past but in his most successful year in OHL, he was traded to and played for SSM Greyhounds whose coach was Sheldon Keefe and GM was Kyle Dubas. Purely speculation but I feel as if there is a good partnership to be had.

2. Getting a great RHD at half the cost and potentially replacing Reilly in the future if he fits.

3. Shedding Engvalls contract. Although Engvall is a useful player and doesn’t make THAT much money, but better players can be found for cheaper and in this cap strapped year, leafs need as much free cap space as possible.
NYR
  1. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Why this makes sense for the Rangers:

1. This marriage between the two is over. It has already been stated that they will attempt to trade him but if not trade can be found, they will buy him out.

2. If they buy him out, they are on the hook for 4.8 mil for another year, whereas in this situation, they only eat 2.4 mil.

3. In return, they get a useful depth player in Engvall instead of nothing if forced to buyout Deangelo.
3.
TOR
  1. Domi, Max ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. Korpisalo, Joonas
  3. 2021 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Why this makes sense for the leafs:

1. By parting with 1 asset, leafs get three needs back in return. I believe it is pretty clear that the leafs can’t afford Hyman this year, they probably won’t be able to afford Reilly next year.

2. Leafs get back into the first round by reacquiring their first round pick. They do take on salary in return but it’s basically a wash for the dollars and cents.
CBJ
  1. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Why this makes sense for Columbus:

1. Clearly Max Domi is not working out in Columbus and they can get out from his hefty contract for this season.

2. With Seth Jones inevitable departure, bringing Rielly in will give them a replacement and give him a fresh start with a new team.

3. In my opinion, Columbus values Elvis more than Korpisalo hence why I included him in this deal.

The only reason I can’t see DeAngelo coming here is because the media would go bonkers and he can’t handle it. To play in Toronto you need guys like JT who are quiet and soft spoken to the media.

Love the Domi trade but I don’t think CBJ will be giving up any picks. Maybe include a player in similar value to a 1st (Just and Idea), or make it a 3 team trade whereas Rielly goes to a contender who needs that kind of defenseman, ie Winnipeg and they give up a 1st and a prospect.

Cost of ADA's buyout: $383 K year one, $883 K year two.
Cost of retaining ADA+adding Engvall=$3.65 mil.

I feel like there's a lot better ways for NYR to use that money than adding a very replaceable bottom 6 forward.

AD is a complete headcase. I'm not into taking on that kind of risk for a potential poison pill.

Domi is scheduled to have surgery and could likely miss most of the first half of the season.

So, in a nutshell, no thanks.

Previous experience with Deangelo would probably make it less likely he goes to Toronto

I think Domi is a smart move cause it gives Robertson a chance to show if he’s capable of being top 6 and gives some other rookies a shot. For eg. Joey Anderson, Filip Hallander and etc a chance in the show.

However I think Domi would play wing and would be 2nd line lw. I see them prioritize a 1st LW as the priority.

Deangelo is a total POS and there is no way anyone, let alone dubas trades for him. He'll be in the khl before he's a leaf

Why is everybody assuming Rielly wouldn’t resign ? Columbus has the money to pay him for his big pay day. Maybe make an extension a part of the trade for Rielly to ease jackets worry. Plus they have 3 1st round picks as it is right now with possibly more coming back from the Seth Jones trade.
