Teams don't trade those kind of assets for rights. If anything it will be a 4th-5th round pick based on recent years. Also would have to pay more than that to Hamilton... if he was willing to sign for that he'd stay in Carolina. He wants to test the market because someone will pay 8.5-9.

Lmao, that's a bit much for Hamilton's right. I would like Bear if he is the odd man out though.

Even then it probably wouldn't return that much

Yes, Carolina signs him for 5 x 7.5M, with the notion he will be traded. I think Bear and 1st is pretty close to what Carolina will get if they go the route of a sign/trade deal with Hamilton. I doubt in the current market that Hamilton gets more than 8M as a UFA and Carolina would lose him for nothing in that case.

I'm still not sure it will return that much, but a sign and trade with no contract left is pretty unprecedented. Who knows what it's worth

Agree with an earlier comment about how if that’s what he wants he’ll just stay in Carolina bc that’s likely what they’re hoping for. I also think that’s a hefty return for a sign and trade but as a Canes fan that would be great. I think the key thing here is the 8th year (which Dougie is looking for) and high demand. Kevin Hayes fetched a 5th rounder a few years ago just for his rights (not a sign and trade) so if you use that as a starting point I would think around a 2nd pick or a B prospect would get it done.
