I wouldn't give up 9th OA for Reinhart but I would for Reilly with an extension.

Hughes - Hamonic/UFA
Reilly - Schmidt
Rathbone - Myers
Juolevi, Bowey

Move Myers next offseason

Rielly needs and deserves PP1 time.
Hughes plays 80% of the powerplay with the PP1 unit.
You are not bumping BH, BB, EP or Miller off for Rielly
Rathbone has the skill set to quarterback PP2.

Once I ask you, where does Rielly fit on this team?

Cause at $6m++++ I don’t

Reilly would be on PP2 for sure, but he and Schmidt would be our best pair at 5 on 5. He would be a play driving defenseman pushing the puck up ice along with Schmidt. He's not a top shut down guy but he's not bad defensively.

Adding Reilly would cement our defense core as a two-way unit for better or worse. We would have no pure shut down, defensive specialists (outside Hughes' partner), but everyone on that blue line can push play with their skating or puck movement. It would definitely be different than the traditional defense core, but it's a more modern one where everyone can skate. If the right system can be implemented it could be deadly, but play without the puck would have to be continuously improved.

Who knows if it will work or not, but that would definitely give the defense and the team an identity.

Cool so you would waste 8 million on a 2nd pair dman who plays less then 20% of the power play

Benning. That you?

I wouldn't want him at 8M, that's too rich. Somewhere around 7M and ideally closer to 6M would be required for his next contract, otherwise I wouldn't do it. If that means it doesn't happen then that's fine too.

But in crunch time we could just run a top-4 of Hughes, Reilly, Schmidt and Myers/Hamonic/UFA. That's pretty good.

His cap comparables are North of $7m, is a PP quarterback and 1 pair dman with all the rank and privileges that come with that.

He is a complete wasted player and money for Vancouver and plain simple doesn’t fit. In the same way Barrie, Letang, Makar Carlson etc doesn’t fit on this team.

He is not the dman who changes this team for the better.

I'd be assuming that one way or another, Rielly chooses to come home (either by trade or Free Agency). If that happened, then we should be able to get him on a more team friendly contract. If he didn't, there would be a team that outbids us and throws him too much money.

If somehow acquired Makar for Boeser+, we would absolutely take it. Pay him and Hughes to carry a parrying, give them cheap complimentary partners with 3 good bottom pairing defenseman, that's a lethal defense. You take star talent at a position as important as RD and don't look back. If we would somehow sign a 27 year old Carlson to a team friendly deal, we should absolutely do it. Same with Letang if our GM likes him as a player. I don't like Barrie as a player so I would hope we never spend to get him lol.

Talent always changes the team for the better. I know your probably thinking of Toronto, but Matthews and Marner are on team crippling deals, not team friendly deals. Instead look at Tampa.
