I think this is pretty fair for a vezina caliber veteran goalie! Others may disagree with me, but Varlamov would make us that much better, and in a weak draft, why not. Our time to win is now! You see the good teams trading their firsts…. in a weak draft, we should too!

Kings pass, cap space is worth more than a late 3rd.

I LOVE the Oilers-Isles trade there. Oilers were trying to get Sebastian Cossa in the draft because Koskinen was awful so Varlamov for a first would actually make sense

Not gonna lie when I saw Varly for a 1st I perked up a little bit. My only two concerns would be: 1 - How did we offload Koski?, 2 - Would Varly have us on his NTC list? I know a lot of Non-Canadian players tend to refuse trades to Canadian markets, especially ones with established careers on US teams since moving's such a hassle. Might work in the offseason with more time to prep though, who knows? I'd gladly throw a 1st at Varlamov regardless.

5.5m in salary dump between Hickey and Komarov would cost more than Bellows and a 3rd. Komarov by himself would likely cost a 2nd

Based off the staal deal which was 5.7. Plus its 2 different contracts so if you wanted to bury them, you could bury double the cap.

The Staal trade was made in part because Detroit needed minutes filled on the blueline. He was able to fill a role and played just under 19mins/night for the Wings.

I think a more accurate reference would be the Tampa trade that Ottawa took on last year. Lightning dropped 3.5m in salary for Paquette and Coburn who didn't play much of a role on the team. Realistically Komarov and Hickey will have an impact much closer to Paquette and Coburn than Staal so the return should probably be more along those lines.

Reinhart is great, and I like what you did with Clutterbuck, but prospect pool isn’t great, although you basically didn’t change it, so I guess it s okay.
