Why would the ducks trade a Top End Prospect for a rental player?

I think if we're shopping for a d from Anaheim it'll be either fowler or Manson. Montour isn't eligible.

Don't think that'll do it for Calgary. A top 2 d for a goalie who has health issues, a number 4 d who I love, and a guy who hasn't scored a goal yet.

So we trade Green for $4 million for 1 year+Jurco+Dets 3rd round pick and all we get is a 1st back we had better get back more then just a 1st here.

Agree with Larkinisking here. Getting too little for Green and asking too much for Vanek

Yup it's a major pipedream to think we could get Montour for a pending UFA. Vanek if Holland retains $1.3 million should net us a 2017 2nd round pick+2018 3rd round pick. Even Hudler got Calgary a 2nd+4th and was having a pretty bad year with the Flames.

I think you guys are overvaluing a prospect here. Getting a D prospect from ANH in exchange for Vanek is a very real possibility. Montour was a late 2nd Round pick. You are all saying we can get a 2nd and 3rd or a 2nd and 4th, but for some reason Montour is out of the question? Montour is not even ANH's top D prospect. Shea Theodore is their #1 D Prospect and you could argue that Jacob Larsson (Their 1st round pick from 2015) is also ahead of Montour in terms of long-term value to ANH. Trades don't always have to be Active NHLer for Draft Picks. Teams do move prospects when they don't have room for them on their active rosters. You guys need to open your minds a bit here.

Also, I think you're dreaming if you think we get more than a 1st in that Mike Green trade. Maybe they could get away with not including the 3rd back to EDM, but if they proposed this offer to Kenny, I would be upset if he declined it. It is not easy to pry teams 1st round picks from them, especially when they don't have a 2nd rounder for that year, which EDM already doesn't have.

The breakdown of the CGY Deal is essentially this:

CGY Gets Howard, Marchenko and a reliable bottom 6 forward (having a down year) in exchange for Brodie and a salary dump. Brodie is someone they can spare since they have depth on D with Giordano, Dougie Hamilton, Engelland and the up and coming Jokipakka. There is no denying that DET comes out with the best player in the deal, but Howard and Marchenko are still very good assets and lots of teams would love to get their hands on Sheahan as a quality bottom 6 forward.
