Description
Looking at our roster and I’m just not loving the way its built.
Too many middle 6/bottom 6 LH shot forwards, only 5 top 6 players. Too much money tied up in a bad goalie and an aging Defense core is keeping us from spending for our needs so we have to get tricky.
So I go about reworking our lineup.
Meir for Drouin two solid prospects and 2 2nd’s is a sweet deal And one I’ve seen a few times in here. Only fear is whatever illness or issue that is causing him to miss the playoffs.
Hertl I love…. but signing him and building any kind of depth is not going to happen. Best solution is Trade him to NY for Chytil Georgiev and a 1st
Chytil is a young future replacement for Hertl, but for now slots in as 3C, Georgiev is a solid option to try and fix our Goal issues, and short term if he fails. we get the pick as trade asset/ prospect depth.
Sam Reinhart is a player I’d love to pluck from dysfunctional Buffalo! He wants out and has demanded a trade, we give up a top 6 young player and that 1st from the Hertl trade. This trade is a little light but I don’t see them getting too much more for him than that given he won’t sign with them and has publicly stated he wants out.
Tierney is a good option for temp 2c spot till Chytil can take it. And Ottawa is looking for better 2c options with long term potential, We give up a solid bottom 6 center and a 2nd and that should be fair. But I’m willing to negotiate.
Simek is just a logical choice for Seattle.
Hyman is a perfect Rw to pair with our 2nd line for a few years till one of the prospects we just drafted are ready to take the role (4 years give or take)
Anderson is insurance in case melnichuyk or Korenar can’t take the next step and secure the backup goal.
Marleau I feel has 1 more decent season up his sleeve and If we can get 7-12 goals and 15-25 points combined with his leadership and mentoring the younger guys I feel he is more than worth it.
Now when you look at these lines
1st line is legit I’d put it around 8-12 ranking in league
2nd line could be in the top 10 if Drouin is healthy and Tierny has a solid year, at worst mid pack 15-16
3rd line is top 10 for sure and could end up being top 5 if they all click
4th is solid 8-13 and we have tons of options if one of them isn’t cutting it.
D could be elite could be a problem all depends on Burns and Karlsson
Goaltending is still a question but at least now we have a cheap vet and 3 options to take the reigns with one out to prove his last team was wrong!!

Team has more good young pieces to combine with the kids coming up in 2-3 years, probably anywhere from 6th seed if Georgiev comes alive and 10/11 if goaltending continues to fail and Karlsson and Burns don’t improve on last season.
If we succeed that’s great to get the team back on track and if we falter a bit just means a better prospect we pick up at the draft!!

Remove Tuch and its closer… Meier hasnt been great in 2 years and Drouin might explode in a non pressure place like SJ.

I honestly think your right on both comments, I was literally cutting and pasting from two other Montreal posts is all.

I think that helps both team but I wasn’t 100% sure Buffalo would be on board.

I don’t disagree but you could say the exact same thing about Meier. Kinda goes both ways.
