Next Year is the Year

Created by: MauriceArthur15
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2021
Published: Jun. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here's my new Leafs team.

Leafs lose Dermott to expansion draft.

Leafs trade Holl to Philly for a 2nd in 2022.

Blockbuster trade between Airzona and Leafs. Leafs trade Kerfoot, Abramov, Hiroven, Engvall and 2022 1st for Dvorak and Garland RFA rights. Airzona gets 2 B-tier prospects to start their rebuild, a 1st in a stacked 2022 draft and 2 roster players in Engvall and Kerfoot. Hiroven and Abramov both project to be NHL players. Abramov projects to be a 2nd line centre, and Hiroven projects to be a 2nd liner as well. This helps Airzona starts their rebuild and helps Airzona with them cutting salary for the upcoming season. Without resigning any free agents they're expected to spend over 50 million in player salaries, while only having 26 players under contract.

Leafs trade Rielly to Calgary for a 1st in 2022. It's move to help Calgary offset the possible loss of Mark Giordano to Vegas. If Mark doesn't get taken just insert another team that needs a top pairing LHD.

Mikheyev to Seattle for 5th, again any team that needs depth that missed on UFA.

Hutch to Tampa bay. They get a backup below league min next year. He will literally only play like 15 games next year at most.

LMK what y'all think down. below. Have a good night.

    Please read the team description. I said to offset the possible loss of Mark Giordano to expansion and if he doesn't get taken just pretend it another team needing top pairing LHD.

    Doesn't matter. We aren't paying a 1st for a rental and also we have Valimaki and Hanifin to move up

    Garland is just rights, so the value isn't really there as the Leafs will need to make the contract offer and Dvorak is the one that cares the most value. Heres the way the value breaks down:

    Dvorak= Kerfoot and Abramov
    Garland=Hiroven and 2022 1st.

    Engvall is thrown in there just to give them an extra roster player.

    Hiroven and Abramov are top prospect to start their rebuilds. They're expected to be 2nd liners in the NHL, and they get Kerfoot who has a lot of value after a strong playoffs and 1st in 2022 which is loaded class.

    If you disagree Toronto offer sheet Garland and front loads his contract so Airzona can't match if you disagree.

    Dvorak is worth a lot more than Kerfoot and Abramov

    You do realize how good Abramov is a prospect. Abramov ceiling is higher than Dvorak and he expected to be a 2nd liner. Abramov literally torched the QMJHL en route to a championship. Kerfoot like I said had a strong playoffs and his value is high which why alot of the reports have Seattle taking him over Dermott.

    That's because you are only looking at the stats. For eg. you are a Florida fan and nobody knew about Weegar until this year and only people in the analytic community knew about him. He broke out and he's the defenceman everyone wants.

    Abramov was literally carrying his team and was consistently the best player on the ice on a team he pretty much carried in juniors. He patient playmaker that can thread the neddle with is passes.

    Yea he had poor world juniors but all of team Russia did. Askarov, Podkolsin and etc all had not the greatest WJC.

    You need to watch him to understand why he's so good. Dobberprospects has him projected as a 2nd line centre and possibility of being a 1st line centre.

    I think to rebuild Arizona would try to trade away their UFAs like Kuemper before trading team protected RFAs. So I doubt they’d trade Garland. Dvorak is interesting but I think if the leafs are actually interested they add Robertson cause the windows closing in 3-4 yrs, the big 4 are all UFAs. Tampa traded Nolan Foote for Coleman, I think Dvorak being under contract for 4 more years at a dirt cheap cost, gotta make a bold trade

    Robertson and Amirov ain’t going anywhere. Those guys are 1st line forward, maybe superstar potential players. No offence to Nolan Foote he’s a great player he’s nowhere near Robertson.

    The Leafs are interested but the it’s in the Leafs favour as, minus a couple other teams, teams don’t have money to spend. Chayka really screwed Airzona as this year OEL is being paid 10.5 million, Keller nearly 10 million, Kessel is owed a 5 million singing bonus and etc. They need a team to come in and pay these guys so they’ll be sold low. Even with Garland he’s probably gonna command 5+ million without singing bonuses whereas if he was to go to a Boston, Toronto, Chicago they’ll happily pay him a 8million signing bonus year 1 and would reduce the overall cap hit.

    I don’t think they’ll trade Kuemper. They’d probably expose him as he’s cost less than Hill.

    At the end of the day it’s more about the business side of the game. Personally I see Airzona moving to Houston either next few years because there isn’t a market for it in Airzona and unfortunately the team isn’t making money. Houston may have more of a chance to at least break even.

    It’s because he’s a UFA in a year and we don’t know if he will resign. Better to get something rather than nothing.
