Id be surprised if major moves were made

Description
I think the Caps are going to make minor moves to supplement the roster, and big names won't be leaving/arriving. Caps are probably going to rely on some younger players making the roster to bring a bit more speed and youth to the lineup.

  1. Schultz, Justin
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Capitals add a third as a sweetener for the Kraken to select Schultz instead of Sprong or Vanecek. Schultz is still a decent player, and could net a decent return for the Kraken if they're not contending out of the gate.

If OV was smart he'd take WAY less than that so they can actually pay for some Defense.

Unfortunately for the Caps, it looks like they've budgeted up to $11M for Ovi's new contract.

Selfish and stupid. They won't really compete again until he's retired.

I'd hope for a contract that was around $8M in AAV, but with big bonuses around making it to the conference finals, winning the cup, etc., but I don't know if he'd take it.

It’s ovi what do you expect he’s a selfish player lol. He won his cup now he just wants money I’m sure a lot of players would do the same. The stupid thing is that Washington would even sign that deal if you wanna keep yourself out of cap problems and try to find other ways to contend move on from ovi he’s not who he once was, he’s lazy he cherry picks and all he does in the offensive zone is stand in one spot and goalies and dmen are starting to take advantage of that because they no longer need to worry about where ovi is coming from. His time is passed it’s time for him to hand off the torch to the next generation of scorers matthews, pasta, rantanen, debrincat, kaprizov

from what i was reading the ownership values the WG goal record and them winning a cup and similar value. As long a Ovi is chasing itll put butts in the seat. I would love for him to sign a 8m deal but that seems unlikely. hard to call a guy greedy for wanting "market value" but its also so frustrating considering how many times his teams have underachieved

Yeah, I think he'll get some time in the lineup early on to see how he looks. Pretty sure that the team doesn't want to rush him into the NHL, but if he performs, that'd be great.

For ovi to beat that record he would have to average 32.8 goals for the next 5 years that pushes him till he’s 40

he has 127g in his last 216 games roughly .59gpg or 48g/82gp doesn't seem all that unlikely but idk why they don't prioritize him winning more cups AND that instead of one or the other

Scoring 32 goals a season at the age of 40 would be very impressive even if he only had to score 20-25 it would be hard ovi is already showing regression in terms of his speed, his physicality, his cardio, around this age is where players start regressing much faster

no doubt but i imagine he'll be able to hit 40+ for the next 2 years that takes him to #2 all time andif he drops to 30/yr after that he can sign a 2 year deal to hit the last 20 goals... COVID / Lock outs screwed him good

Ya that’s all I think with the last 2 years being shortened seasons and who knows for next season as well how long it will be I just think with the obstacles covid has brought upon the league it won’t be easy for Ovi

"it won't be easy for Ovi" to break arguably one of the most impressive records in all of sports. Good take.

Well it’s true I hear so many people say he will easily beat Gretzky record but not unless he wants to play over the age of 40

I do not think it will be easy, and honestly, kinda doubtful (and I am a Caps fan). One of the hardest records to break in all of sports in my opinion.
