Pass from Dallas. Cap doesn't work & they aren't giving up one of their best prospects & a 1st for a 1-year rental that would be joining a crowded LD depth chart. Reilly is a fine player, but Toronto & Dallas simply aren't compatible for a trade like this.

Not to mention that his style of play would absolutely die in a Rick Bowness led system. He is very heavily focused on the defensive side of the puck, which doesn't really tailor itself well to Reilly's strengths

I see what you're saying there, I was hoping to add in that rielly signs an extension but forgot to add that

According to Elliot Friedman and CJ that’s Riley’s value. That prospect and a 1st is Riley’s value but I do agree he’s not going to Dallas as they’re stacked on the Left and need right more.

Assuming that the Engvall trade is "to whoever wants him" 'cause I don't think the Jackets will.

I just don't see the cap working for an extension; at least not with the flat cap for the next couple of years. Dallas has to sign Heiskanen, Klingberg, Oettinger, Robertson, and Gurianov either this offseason or next & cap is going to get real tight.

Oh I'm not knocking the value. I agree that Reilly should fetch that kind of return. A bit too much for Dallas to give up knowing that he either forces someone out next season (assuming he signs an extension) or that he's only a 1-year rental (if he doesn't sign an extension). Value is fair; just doesn't really fit with where Dallas is right now.

True, can definitely see what you're saying. another spot I was thinking was anaheim but not sure if they're there yet in their rebuild

I agree, I see a Rielly going to a LA or something as he can help out their young guys on the backend with Doughty. I see it being for LA 2022 1st (top 10 protected) and Tyler madden.

It will make Toronto’s 2022 1st expendable and they’ll probably trade down in 2022 draft to accumulate more picks like they normally do with the LA pick.
