Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2021
Published: Jun. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reilly used to replace Hyman. Carolina interested to replace Hamilton. Might be selling low to only get back Niederreiter but your constraints make it tough (I.e., must be a LW; cap hit $5M or less).

UFAs used to rebuild third line into something dependable that’s a threat to score. Weinberg or (maybe…) Nugent-Hopkins options at C if their costs also below $5M. Coleman and Janmark options at RW.

4th line wings are won through camp. Lilegren swaps in and out for Bogosian depending on opponent. Would need to make cap work for it through IR usage.

Engvall moved to clear cap. Kerfoot lost to expansion. Reimer (or similar at same cost) brought in for G2. Gally resigns one year show me deal.

PP set. PK not sure…

I would think that trading Rielly would mean they would get more for him, possibly like a A-B level prospect.

In what world is a fourth line scrub like Engvall worth a third round pick? Buffalo might not even take him off waivers from you.

I’m a bit more pessimistic but I hope you’re right. His expiring contract is what kills value since any team that gets him can’t resign for anything less than $7 (probably).

Was also struggling a bit to find teams truly in need of a 1B puckmover like him. Winnipeg also came to mind, but their cupboard to offer is emptier IMO.

Make it a seventh then. Value back doesn’t matter to the overall picture - point is to move the cap out.

(Also could be any team…I picked the Sabres at random)

Sabres have 5 left-wingers that are returning that are better than Engvall.

Throw him on the waiver wire, watch him get claimed by Florida and scored 10 goals playing for them. Everyone else seems to do it.

That’s too painfully realistic to include. Can’t do that to myself

This is besides the point, but they probably do not.

Carolina might do a 1 for 1 swap but don’t think they’re adding picks going back for a rental. They also have a better shot at re-signing Nino versus Reilly if they wanted to and could shop around this / next year to replace Dougie in FA if he does leave.

Ruotsalainen is not better. I don't think Girgensons is. I'm not a Sabers fan, but the games I did watch this year I saw Olofsson playing the right side.
