Tkachuk Trade Attempt

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2021-22 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2021
Published: Jun. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With all the rumours floating around I figured I would give it a try. Personally, I don't want to see CGY trade Tkachuk but if rumours are true, their hands may be tied.

Is this trade fair? I tried to make it as fair as possible and did a bit of research around what the possible return could look like.

Let me know any changes I should make, thanks!

I think the flames should be getting more here.

Completely fair and personally, that is what I think as well. I just didn't know if they would be getting full value since St. Louis seems to be the only place he would like to go. I do agree with you though.

I dont think Calgary would be interested in Tarasenko. That stated, it would be an equal mistake for the Blues to trade a young piece like Kyrou when they need to be younger and faster and he's the fastest skater on the team with tremendous skill. I dont see the Blues actually making an offer Calgary would accept. Calgary doesn't need Dunn, so the best I could come up would be:
Schenn + Neighbours + 16th overall for Tkachuk.

They get a piece to compete now in Schenn, a young forward prospect who plays a hard physical game and crashes the net like Tkachuk, plus 16th overall which should have some talent. Question is whether or not Schenn would waive his NTC for Calgary

Agreed especially with the number and seriousness of Tarasenko's injuries. Maybe switch the 2nd to a 1st and add a condition of if he plays more than 60% of the Flames games in 22 the pick is down graded to a 2nd.

I actually like that proposal a lot better than mine haha! It would be contingent on Schenn waiving his NTC like you mentioned, and after signing long term I think it's probably unlikely but you never know!

St. Louis is overpaying, but that would be Tkachuk's destination though. Good job.

Who cares where he wants to go? If I’m the flames and he’s trying to force a trade to the blues, I tell him to go sign an offer sheet when he can, and unless the blues are offering enough to make it four first rounders, the flames will match, and he’ll be stuck there.

Seems like a fair trade thought Tarensenko's NTC kills the deal.

No, that isn't how it gonna to play out. Just my opinion, but Tkachuk has told the Flames he will not long term with the Flames. So the Flames have two choices trade him some time between now and his UFA freedom in summer of 2023, or keep him and likely Tkachuk is a UFA and signs elsewhere.
He won't be signing an offer sheet so the Flames can match. He plays this year with 7m contract. Next summer (if he isn't traded) he accepts the 9m qualifying offer the Flames have to give up for keeping his rights for 22/23. Then he's a a UFA in 2023 after serving 7 seasons as Flame. Trouba did the same type of thing with the Jets, except the Jets traded after his 6th season.

Okay, so he doesn't sign an offer sheet, stays in CGY for 1-2 more years and then signs with the Blues in Free Agency. I can see keeping him for another year while he's under team control. However, when he hits UFA status in 2 years, I'm sure they would like to get something for him rather than let him walk. The value they get in 2 years will be significantly less than now since he is almost a lock to sign in St. Louis. I get what you're saying but you gotta look at both sides.

Calgary is a heck of a lot closer to Saskatoon (his hometown) than St. Louis.

By all means. Trade him if he really seems to want out. That doesn’t mean he gets to pick his destination though. He does not have any no trade protection. The flames take the best deal they can get if they know that he won’t be around long term.

You missed the entire point of my post. The point was that there’s no scenario where Matthews can force his way to STL now.

You're right. Tzachuk will have to wait two seasons. And even then, the Blues have to decide whether he fits their needs or cap, But more than anything, I think Tkachuk is kinda fed up with the middling Flames and even the next two years can't see any real improvement with the team.

And he has every right to ask for a trade, but i think he’s crazy if he wants to influence where he goes.
