Flames won't be using there 1st to dump Lucic IMO

What do you want to give up to dump Lucic? Heineman and 1st (2022) and hope it's not a top 15 pick, or a 2nd?

I think I will keep Lucic. Yes he is overpaid but if Flames lose Gio and trade Looch that will be 2 of the best leaders on the team. And if Tkachuk does really want out and GMBT is saying he doesn't has a negotiation technique that would be our 3 best leaders gone.

Johnson and Lucic are still useful players.
Neal maybe some nights.
Ladd isn't playing. And Eriksson might as well not be playing.

And all of those teams will say, "we are not paying to move that salary"

We would probably try to not give up a 1st cuz our prospect pool isnt in the best shape and Lucic hasnt been that terrible for us. Maybe we would retain a couple mil so we can keep our 1st.

Tampa really wants to get rid of Johnson this summer and they know they need to pay BIG to the team who takes him. I mean there is a reason no one picked him up from waivers.

I don’t disagree that Lightning will pay to move him.
I just think he would be more attractive for rebuilding club, than Ladd or Neal.

Also, it’s a lot harder to add cap mid-season. So don’t assume all those that pass waivers have negative value.

Biggest reason nobody has taken him is they know Tampa will have to either pay to offload him or if they can't find a taker for him, better players will become available.

For the Oilers one, I'd be hesitant to use a 1st to dump salary but something like this I would do.

Maybe a 3rd? Absolute max Calgary would pay is a 2nd. Lucic despite being overpaid has been an excellent team leader and positive impact player for the Flames. Not really interested in moving him considering the price it would cost
