Regardless of whether or not it makes the 'Canes match, this is a well thought-out team, with cap room to spare no less. Also, if the 'Canes match that number there's a good chance they have to trade someone else or waste money on a buyout they didn't plan, so it's a shrewd move.

You really don't have the cap now to make that offer, since no team is going to take 5.5m Drouin off your hands.

Lias Anderson was worth a 2nd, pretty sure a 45-55 points winger bad defensively could bring more
Kotkaniemi it’s 2 years deal or long terms
3 years brings him to is last year of RFA and arbitration. He could take then the 1 year deal and go straight to UFA

True. Canes will shift some things around and make a couple of moves but they don’t have much in the sense of bad contracts so can easily pivot without having to risk the current or future core, especially with some really talented young players coming up on ELCs. Doing this would make MTL a target going forward not only from the Canes but likely from other teams. With a young core coming up this is a move that might bite them in the ass in the coming years if they start getting OS themselves.
