Detroit declines, Pettersson is not a good fit for them.

Which team do you think would serve as a good fit for Pettersson?

I actually wouldn't mind the Wings taking a flier on Petterson. It's a high-risk, but high-reward roll of the dice. If he returns to form and this past season was a dip, he could really fill a hole on LD for us and still hasn't hit his ceiling. On the other side, if the regression is the new standard, that's a lot of term and money tied up on the heels of finally getting out from under DeKeyser's contract.

Personally, I think he will bounce back, so I'm willing to roll the dice, but I can completely understand why others would be apprehensive.

For a 7th? Easily take Pettersson.

    I wouldn't consider a 7th rounder even remotely high-risk. He's only owed $4M for the next 3 years....

The contract is the risk, not the pick...

I agree. For a 7th it would be a bad move not to take him.

Here's the reason Pettersson won't be coming to Detroit, he has too much term left on his deal. Yzerman almost has everyone on the team under a contract he negotiated. Now if he had a season or maybe 2 seasons left maybe Yzerman might say yes. I'm sorry but pushing that back another 2 full years isn't worth it for Pettersson.

Let's be realistic if Pittsburgh was willing to take anything less than a 3rd for Petterson he'd have several teams willing to take him.

So many players get dumped on Detroit because they aren't good and a good number of people on this site ARE JUST TOO F****** LAZY to find a team that is a good fit.

he didn't have as bad a year as people say. his advanced numbers were pretty good and i think it'd be a good gamble for Detroit. He's definitely worth more than a 22' 7th that's just awful

Yea, I wouldn't be opposed to giving up as high as the VGK 3rd for him. Anything more than that and when you factor in the contract, it gets a little dicey...

No way... Stetcher was easily one of our best defenseman last season, I don't want to move him AT ALL

    1. Brian Burke/Ron Hextall probably want another team to take Petterson off their hands.

    2. Pettersson is an overpaid defenceman that is 6th/7th on the Penguins' depth chart and he fell out of favour with Coach Sully very quickly during the playoffs.

    3. Pierre Olivier Joseph is an obvious replacement for Petterson next season.

    4. Penguins are one of a handful of teams in the NHL that will be over the cap or right up against it if nothing changes.

    5. Teddy Blueger, Cody Ceci and a few others will be needing pay raises.

    6. Petterson will be left unprotected regardless and is under contract until 2025.

    7. Viktor Arvidsson was just traded for a 2nd and a 3rd yesterday, so I had to factor that into the Pettersson trade with Detroit as well.
