@TanSor it looks like @nickkbowen25 and I were thinking down the same path... I was just trying to figure out the cost of putting Parise's Cap into the Eichel deal.
If the ask is 4 top picks or prospects, then it is Sturm and O'Rourke to take Parise... which doesn't get it done on Buffalo's side. If they drop the ask for Eichel, then maybe... but as a Wild Fan l have a hard time trading 4 prospects/ 1sts ... it really hurts what we can accomplish 3+ years from now.

1) Parise isn't waiving for Buffalo
2) wild will not give up all that asset. Wild, & other teams have made it clear they aren't giving up that much assets. You also can't just take away 2 young C's like that from wild even if nico becomes just a 3rd liner
3) Wild just selected Ryan Orouke just last year. Highly unlikely they are going to trade a draft picks drafted by judd brackett

Remember wild gm making it clear he's not buying out players? Until wild owner allow it, it's just not realistic

Wild wouldn't be buying him out, Buffalo would be, so that is why I could see him waiving for Buffalo if they bought him out because he'd become a free agent.

It typically takes a lot to dump cap (just look at when Toronto dumped Marleau to Carolina with 2 years at ~$6M hit) so that's why I think the price of dumping him to Buffalo for buyout purposes probably isn't worth it. They'd be on the hook for a lot of cap over the next 4 years, and basically a depth player for 4 years after that (think it's like $800k or so for the last 4 years of the buyout). If I'm Buffalo I'm asking for a truck load to do that

From whose perspective? It has been reported (Michael Russo) that Parise would welcome a buyout because it would give him an opportunity to play in a more elevated role. MN doesn't want to buy him out or have him retire... both scenarios have a cap hit that they are not interested in. I can't figure out the "Mutual Termination of Contract"... I feel like if that was a viable loophole more teams would use that instead of a buyout. So MN either needs to suck it up and keep him... or convince him to waive his NMC. And it's easier to waive the NMC if Parise is guaranteed that he will be bought out... make some money in the deal, and then sign with someone else. The only player where the buyout probably doesn't make sense is Buffalo if they hope to contend in the next 3 years... but if they don't, if BUF is trying to build for 4+ years down the road then buying out ZP doesn't really matter as much as they attempt to stockpile young talent.

I don't think I would do this scenario, but a trade ZP for the purpose of buyout isn't totally outrageous.

Does the Parise - Henrique swap have potential? That's been my favorite ZP proposal so far.

The team buying out Parise has no incentive. Whichever team buys him out saves $5,166,667 in cap space this year ($2.3M cap hit). Next year it drops to a $1,166,667 savings ($6.3M cap hit) , then to $166,667 savings the following 2 years ($7.3M cap hit) then the next 4 years of a $833K cap hit.

It will need a sweetener but I think ANA wants the cap room right when it kicks back to full cap hit on the buyout. I think something with Schmaltz and ARI probably has more legs.

The incentive is whatever picks and prospects come with the cap dump... as @TanSor said... it is typically a very high price... the budget/cap floor/cash teams have been the ones in the past to take on dead cap, so there is precedent for someone to be willing to take on Parise's Cap... especially when the real money is much lower. Buffalo wouldn't be taking on Parise for free. And I am not sure they are the right partner (if there is one) for Parise

Some teams care more about real dollars than cap dollars at this point in time. A Parise buyout costs the team 800k a year but they get a cap hit of over 7 mil in the last 2 years of the deal. That could be valuable for a team trying to hit the cap floor without paying the actual value of the cap floor.

How much of a sweetener? 2nd? 3rd? Player?
If Schmaltz gets moved, I'd think ARI would want to do so before paying his $1M bonus that he's due this year.

Schmaltz is owed over 30 mil on his deal with a 6 mil cap hit. ARI strikes me as a team that’s about to tank and having 7 mil in dead cap that doesn’t cost real money is an asset. I proposed a 1st, Khovanov, and Menell. Is that enough? IDK.

As for ANA, I think they’d need at least a 2nd but probably more.

I understand that but teams care about real dollars in the short term when trying to make the cap floor that particular year and not long term like 3 and 4 years down the road.

I hear you, but raise you Marian Hossa being traded to *ARI* with 3 years of a 5.5 mil cap hit in 2018. This exact scenario we are discussing with Parise has happened with the very team we are discussing he go to and they are absolutely heading into a rebuild.

It might not happen, but a lot of incentives are aligned and that’s how a deal gets done.

But in this case it isn't a high price let alone a very high price. What is the precedent for taking on a 36 year old with 4 years left on his deal at a $7.5M AAV. You typically see teams taking on cap hits with low cash payouts for the current year and next years cap floors and not 3 & 4 years out.

The Hossa situation and this aren't apples to apples. Hossa's career was over and his contract was able to go on LTIR. Parise's can't.

No, they are not apples to apples. But the idea of trading cap for real dollars is. It’s reasonable to disagree, but if there is one situation where Parise can get traded it’s to the yotes.
