What makes this realistic though? If the leafs move marner, it’s not like they’re blowing it up. They’ll want pieces that can help them compete today. The two prospects don’t do it for them, and the first doesn’t either.

The trade next year would be zacha and cap space for marner. Can’t see that happening.

What actually makes sense is an two good players on team friendly deals, and a future.

I'm not sure it makes sense for the Devils. Couldn't the Devils just sign a premier UFA this year or next with that Marner $$$$ and keep their young assets.
It might seem the Leafs are "blowing it up", but if they traded for basically futures like this deal proposed the Leafs would have enough cap to sign a big name UFA Hamilton and have cap and those futures.

Mercer & Vukojevic are interesting, but Zacha isn't going to be of interest especially since they're fine up the middle and would need a middle-six LW at least.
Although, I think Ty Smith instead of Zacha is interesting if the Leafs can't/don't re-sign Rielly.
