Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know those trades may seem low but, Arvidsson went for a 2nd and a 3rd, so I think a roster player, B tier prospect and a 2nd is fair.
For Merzy I believe that it is fair because we traded for Rittich for a similar price and are providing a backup for Korpi. Could throw in a player like Anderson or Duszak.
Re-Signed Galchenyuk at $1M because that's what i think he is worth.
Re-Signed Bogo at $1M though if he doesn't sign we could put Liljegren on the bottom pair.

To explain a little: Merzy can play Tandem with Soupy because they're both very good goalies and would be a good idea if we are losing Rittich and Freddy. We can keep them well-rested but have very few holes in our goaltending situation.

Forsberg would be a great trade because he is a highly-skilled player who brings a lot of offensive spark to the team and would be good for another playoff run.
Would be a good idea to add a gritty forward like Pat Maroon for the 4th line but i didn't bother looking to far into it.
Our defense is pretty solid. Though we could probably find someone with higher skill than Bogo, I doubt we could match the grit he brings and find higher skill and stay within the $2,558,550 of cap space we would have without his contract.

EDIT: Signed Bobby Ryan as a more gritty 4th line forward, moved Brooks to Taxi Squad

I get that Toronto had trouble scoring in the playoffs but after you replace Andersen you guys need defense help, that right side is brutal

I agree its not great but Brodie and Holl are both good, Bogo could be replaced but I like his grit.

Arvidsson went for a lot less and we payed less for Rittich, I do think adding a B tier prospect for Merzy is fine but the trades really arent that impossible

I agree he's not great but he is good enough to be an actual backup, considering Columbus is basically in a rebuild.

    Plus low cap hit

I am not worried about their offence. I think they should go hard after Hamilton and that would give them one of the best D groups in the league.

As far as offence we have lots of firepower and you just need to find guys like Galchenyuk on the Left side that can chip in a few goals here and there. If you are not giving up goals you don't need to score as much.

That right side is fine. Holl was a top 4 dman this year (which is all we need him to be) Bogo was really good (other than unnecessary penalties) and Brodie was a godsend

I think his only Value is he meets the games requirement needed to be exposed for the the expansion draft. That's the only reason the Leaf's got him. after the draft he has no value to any NHL/AHL team

I agree it was fine but we need better than fine. Holl would be great as a 3rd pairing D

true, I think going for Dougie or Forsberg is a good idea, i'd prefer forsberg because he has a lighter cap hit and will leave more room for depth forwards

If we got Hamilton our we'd be cap screwed for an eternity,
Considering the right side was better than the left side (Brodie>Rielly Muzzin>Holl, Bogo>Dermott) and the leafs were a top 10 defensive team last year, I don't think we need defense

I agree, going for someone with a cap hit between 4-6M would be our best option, better to get more Top 6F than to go for Bottom 4D right now

I like Forsberg as well but he will be a UFA after 1 year, IF they lock up Hamilton they have him for 7/8 years and they also need to lock up Reilly too (preferably this summer)

    Defense wins championships

Yea, but Forsberg would probably sign an extension in Toronto if given the chance, I don't see Dougie coming here for any less than 7.5-9M and we can't afford to do that, if he comes here for long term on a monster contract its gonna be another OEL situation

Honestly, we need a top 6 left winger more than defense. Defense wins championships but goals win games. If we resign Hyman, that's great (at this point I think it's either Edmonton or Toronto because that's what makes the most sense). If not we could get Schwartz, Tatar, Granlund, Forsberg etc.

Hamilton also brings Offence and the cap is manageable. you have Sandin/Liljegren who can now play more sheltered minutes and once they are ready for a top 4 role you can move Muzzin or Brodie.

Also the Cap will start to go up next summer

The cap isn't manageable though, if we signed Hamilton we'd have no left wingers other than a 19 year old kid. That's not a smart way to do this.

You have options. Nylander can move to the left if needed Galchenyuk, Mikheyev and many other UFA wingers Do you need a star winger on the top 2 lines? Look at Pittsburg you can find low cost options that can keep up and chip in. you do it by committee on the left side

2020 called, they want their outdated talking point back.

Toronto's defense was the least of their worries this season. People underrate Holl and Brodie.

Exactly. NSH wouldn't trade a player that is just as good or better than Nylander for that package either.
