he's a very good player and leader on the team, but he's not a franchise player. Got one within one goal of the cup without him. Slow power forward with 6 years left on his deal coming off of a season ending knee injury who was given a deal that assumed the cap would be rising. Obviously this would never happen unless Lou knows something about his knee that no one else does, but the 13M is pretty substantial. Is Lee worth Cizikas, Pelech, and Palmieri?

The first Detroit trade isn't bad at all. Would probably work. The Bertuzzi trade is far off. Koivala isn't very interesting, and adding a cap dump in clutterbuck definitely hurts the value. Have to add a first at least and then possibly more. Wilde is a good pick for a prospect we would be interested in.

The team is set to win now. If you decide this is not the path, then this is a great way to get out from Lee's contract before it would get bad. That being said, team is built to win now and you need to maximize that especially going into the new building. The only options for the isles are stomaching the loss of Eberle/Leddy in expansion and finding a way to shed at least one of Ladd, Komarov and Hickey (preferably in that order). Doing so keeps the core intact, allows cizikas to be signed and lets the team try and run it back this year.
