Isles Retool Trading Nelson
First; the point isn't the exact teams we're trading with, I don't know the ins and outs of every single team's picks. It's about what it would look like for us. That's about what it took to get Horvat, and Nelson is better.
Second; Nelson has 83 goals since the start of 2021 for about a 40 goal pace while being a leader and a 200 foot player. He's one of the most underrated players in the league due to hitting his stride late-ish into his career and playing for a smaller market team. I don't expect every fan of every team to be aware of how high his ascent has been, but NHL scouting departments surely are.
As far as Wallinder, I picked him because he's not even your top LHD prospect. Feel like it's pretty appropriate

Barry gets his toys back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Anyone who looked at Oliver Wahlstrom's TOI down the home stretch last season would have a hard time believing that he was one of Barry Trotz's favorite toys.
I would think if they're doing that type of trade, it would be someone like JGP or Palmieri heading to Nashville. Barry tended to lean on his veterans a lot more than his younger players, and getting some of them feels way more likely than targeting Wahlstrom/Bolduc, if he was even going to open up a trade dialogue with the Islanders.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Not_Isles5513</b></div><div>Also Duchene isn’t exactly high value rn. You could probably get away with offering Pageau and a second if you really wanted to imo</div></div>
Would be hard pressed to think that Nashville is trying to trade for veterans after dealing Jeannot and Niederreiter for picks. If it's just a re-tool they're after maybe they have interest in Pageau or Palmieri, but a report came out that they were already in talks about Wahlstrom which is what spurred this. If Isles can add Duchene for less, great. I'm not really losing sleep over trading Wahlstrom or Bailey tbh though.

sorry, his qualifying offer is slightly more than that. I just put around what I thought it was
however he's going to be coming off of a season ending injury after playing at a 35 point pace with the team's top point producer and on the first PP where he managed one point. Pretty sure he's not getting much more than a qualifying offer

so get a slightly worse backup goalie and take 500k off of Parise's contract and make it up in bonuses. buy out clutterbuck if you need. not a big deal at all

Longterm D Lockup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>That is not true..Beauvillier was the main driver of the 2nd line the past two years, his speed and transition ability is one of the main reasons why the isles were successful in the playoffs - without him Nelson/Bailey's numbers were brutal. It's not surprising an isles fan wants to dump Beauvillier , , im sure you were in favor of trading toews for scraps and letting Eberle go for nothing.
The middle 6 you have here does not have 1 player who can enter the offensive zone with possession. Bellows is a solid middle 6 W, but he needs a strong play driver on his line to be successful. Palmieri is awful and Bailey is cooked. Maroon will be 34 next year and is more suited for a 4th line role.
I don't think you understand this isles team needs forwards who can drive offense with speed and maintain possession in the offensive zone to be successful. Bellows-Nelson-Palmieri and Maroon-Pageau-Bailey would spend more than 75% of their ice time hemmed in the defensive zone.</div></div>
BTW, bringing up Beau's playoffs last year while not bringing up his current season and then bringing up Palmieri's current season without bringing up his playoffs last year shows you don't even care about what you're saying - just cherry picking the facts that help make your point of view not look unhinged. Palmieri's underlying metrics are fine. He was snakebitten and now is injured, doesn't look like a liability out there. Hate to break it to you but Beau is not the player standing between this team making the playoffs or not

Longterm D Lockup
differences between last year and this lineup:
Eberle becomes Wahsltrom - a wash at the worst, likely an upgrade
Beau becomes Bellows - maybe a win for beau, but we haven't really ever seen him put it together for a full season. Could end up being a wash
MDC becomes Maroon - if you hate that, make it athensiao or someone, but CLEAR upgrade
Martin becomes Parise - CLEAR upgrade
Clutterbuck becomes Czarnik - CLEAR upgrade
.....
Leddy becomes Girard - CLEAR upgrade
Mayfield becomes Zadorov - wash
Greene becomes Salo - wash with upside
Dobson then vs Dobson now - CLEAR upgrade
Sorokin then vs Sorokin now - CLEAR upgrade
Btw, was not in favor of losing either of those players. no need to be a condescending asshole, we don't know each other and are apparently on the same side

No more brutal than the ones that took the Isles to the Conference Finals two years straight. Probably better. The team is built off of defense and goaltending and this would be the strongest we have been in both those categories in my lifetime.

Obviously this is based on a scenario where Minnesota and Kaprizov can't come to terms. 0 reason for Isles to trade Barzal, but this feels like a generous return for a player who will possibly lost for nothing

guesses
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chooch</b></div><div>I could be wrong but I really don't think the Blues want Bailey. He's a good player but Blues don't want him for 3 years. They want Tarasenko's money freed up for next year. They need to resign Parayko after this season - hoping he can get something similar to Pelech but fearful after seeing Nurse, Werenski, and Jones deals. The Blues also really want to make a play for M. Tkachuk eventually. Thinking the deal would be more like Komarov, Hickey, and then Blues actually get back decent player(s) Salo, Dobson, Bolduc, maybe Wilde (although don't really like his game) and maybe a 2nd. I also don't really consider Bellows to be that good since he's always one of the ones offered by Isles fans. Most of those that say Tarasenko is damaged goods, also seem to want him on their top line which is ironic...
The more this goes on, think Blues might make Tarasenko come back and prove his health/value. He hasn't had an off-season since the Blues won the cup and is apparently getting in really good shape. I think he'll score at least 30 next year. I also don't think he's damaged goods - think he's finally healthy.</div></div>
A deal like Tarasenko for Bolduc, Wilde, Komarov, Hickey and a second feels like it could work, although it also sort of feels like a NHL 2021 trade where you just keep adding little pieces until the other team accepts hahaha. Still, it makes sense - Komarov is the kind of presence that seems like would fit right in with the Blues vibe - plus him and hickey come off of the books next season so you can re-sign Parayko. Bolduc, Wilde and a second is essentially three seconds which sounds about right. And while Bolduc would be a tough till to swallow, Wilde is essentially blocked at RD for the next couple of years. I'd make the trade.

Nelson and Baileys numbers without Beauvillier are f*cking brutal . Beauvilliers numbers actually improved without them. Parise is one year removed from a 25 goal year, and two years removed from a 28 goal year - each in substantially less than 82 games played. Calling him a 13 F is beyond harsh.
The point of putting him there was to spread the love around and have Lee anchor his own line. It's also been relayed to me that I didn't move Boychuk into the LTIR slot so this team is moot anyway

he's a very good player and leader on the team, but he's not a franchise player. Got one within one goal of the cup without him. Slow power forward with 6 years left on his deal coming off of a season ending knee injury who was given a deal that assumed the cap would be rising. Obviously this would never happen unless Lou knows something about his knee that no one else does, but the 13M is pretty substantial. Is Lee worth Cizikas, Pelech, and Palmieri?
