Los Angeles would have little to no need for a forward next summer, especially a 33-year-old forward with a $5 million cap hit.

Detroit passes. That 1st is going to Ottawa so Detroit can get their 2024 1st back since it will be a lottery pick. I can't see Yzerman trading a 21yr old Wallinder for a 32yr old Nelson.

Nelson is a 1st line caliber center on a steal of a contract. Wallinder isn’t even good enough to be the centerpiece of the trade.

But he isn't really, that 75 pt season at 31 years old isnt going to be repeated. I like the player but if I'm moving the prospect and 1st this isn't the deal.

First; the point isn't the exact teams we're trading with, I don't know the ins and outs of every single team's picks. It's about what it would look like for us. That's about what it took to get Horvat, and Nelson is better.

Second; Nelson has 83 goals since the start of 2021 for about a 40 goal pace while being a leader and a 200 foot player. He's one of the most underrated players in the league due to hitting his stride late-ish into his career and playing for a smaller market team. I don't expect every fan of every team to be aware of how high his ascent has been, but NHL scouting departments surely are.

As far as Wallinder, I picked him because he's not even your top LHD prospect. Feel like it's pretty appropriate

Nelson isn’t a need for Detroit due to the Wings not being contenders. Nelson doesn’t make them contenders, and if he did the benefit would last for 1-2 years.

Wallinder was taken 32 overall, and beat out Edvinsson for defensive honors in the SHL. He is 6’4 and is mobile. Just because Edvinsson is the top prospect, doesn’t mean Wallinder is not a legitimate prospect.

over the past 3 seasons Nelson is a top 10 5v5 goal goal scorer. Back to back seasons of 35+ goals and hell likely score 40 goals this season. He's a top 20 center in the NHL.<a href=Screenshot-2023-11-25-at-10-45-47-AM">
