Laine’s deal is 85% of last years salary. The least he can get in arbitration. Don’t see him having much of a case for anything else in arbitration.

If you want Danault you have to offer him more than the deal he rejected. 6-year, $30M ($5M AAV)

The sources on that report are super shaky. And the info on details comes from Danault’s camp, not the Habs.

He was asked follow up questions about it at the end of the season media yesterday. Parts of it might be in french but they do mention the situation. He doesn't deny it and says it did play a role in his poor start of the season

Yes there was a contract offer. I wouldn’t believe it was anywhere close to 6x$5mm though, if I were you.

Laine's qualifying offer is $7.5 million. He can just sign that and not go to arbitration.

Dude you can't pay Laine less then his $7,500,000 qualifying offer, And i doubt Danault accepts anything less then 5 x $5,500,000 minimal.

The club can (and will) elect for arbitration as well. They don’t need to qualify him.

In arbitration, the club can offer 85% of last years salary. Which is what they will do, given his poor statistical performance last year.

Re: Danault’s offer, I think it’s entirely possible that the Blue Jackets offer is the highest out there. Given that they, for some reason, thought $5.3mm was appropriate value for Domi.

Alternately, Laine could probably that and sign for 2x$6.5mm taking him to UFA.

If Laine believes he isn't going to get anything good out of arbitration, he won't file and he will just sign the $7.5 million QO before CBJ can take him to arbitration.

No they can't look it up on here, The minimal they can offer him is his $7,500,000 qualifying offer there is no 85% of a qualifying offer no team is aloud to offer only 85% a qualifying offer is what it is. There's noway Laine is accepting 85% he will ask out before he lets that happen. Jarmo can give him his $7,500,000 qualifying offer and let hi be a UFA next summer and try and move him at the TDL.

You’re wrong. The team doesn’t need to give a 100% qo if they elect arbitration.

From Capfriendly:
If the player does not receive a qualifying offer by June 25th at 5:00pm ET (July 26th for the 2021 off-season), they immediately become a UFA.

You’re wrong. Look up the CBA section on club elected salary arbitration.

Unless the club elects arbitration, which binds player and team to the arbitrator’s decision.

For the sake of argument let's say that is the case. Then the team puts their position at the floor $6,375,000 (based on last year) and Laine puts in his at $8,625,000 (based on his career stats) and the arbitrator does what he normally does and picks the midpoint of $7,500,000. It isn’t final offer selection so $7.5 is highly likely.

Except in this case, the club’s offer is higher than what his stats say he should get, but he’s not allowed to get any less.

Pretty open and shut case, which means it probably won’t get there. Short of an offer sheet, Laine’s agents don’t really have much of an option but to take the minimum. The arbitration case would inevitably be a waste of everyone’s time with the conclusion crystal clear going into it.

The only way he gets slightly higher is by taking 2 years.

I disagree, they'll bring up the career stats and get something much better.
