MTL is interested in POJ
So the article talks about the trade deadline. Which most likely leads to Montreal being OUT on POJ.
Reasoning: Montreal was shopping around Lehkonen. Pitsburg was always a team that had interest in Lehky. I assume they tried to get POJ + a 2nd. Pits wasn't willing to make the trade so they settled with Colorado. Barron + a 2nd. This makes it far more unlikely for the montreal canadians to move someone for another young defenseman. They've stacked the cupboards during the last few drafts and went out to get Barron. They've got a bottle neck with Guhle, Harris, Norlinder and company still in the pipeline. Resigned Wideman. Then they have too many big contracts on the back end.

Goalie Problems Solved
Edm can probably go and get Campbell from TO as a UFA during the offseason. He's been a top goalie for the past two years. Probably cheaper than trying to get a goalie through trade. Offer him 6 MIL AAV . Good goalie. Then use the assets you would of given up for a goalie to just strengthen the other problematic areas/DEPTH

All Or Nothing
Leafs fans need to realize that whenever they always make trades where the teams retains salary for free. Are they unaware that retaining salary would cost them?
It's always like yeah we'll take McDavid for a bag of pucks + 99% salary retention.
At least add a pick or prospect if you are making the opposing team retain. Even if it's a rental. Retaining is a luxury at this point, especially to the leafs with no salary available. The other 31 GMs are not dumb

Kane Buyout
I remember the habs putting Kassian on the players assistance program due to substance abuse for that year we traded for him.
I wonder if San Jose could tell him to go through the player assistance program to deal with his gambling issues etc. He might not want to but maybe that could allow him to come out a better man, more in control of his finances & less dramatic. Might be easier to trade after that

He was asked follow up questions about it at the end of the season media yesterday. Parts of it might be in french but they do mention the situation. He doesn't deny it and says it did play a role in his poor start of the season

is there a reason why Danault accepts that when he rejected 6-year, $30M ($5M AAV) earlier this year ?

If you want Danault you have to offer him more than the deal he rejected. 6-year, $30M ($5M AAV)

drouin returns
Looks about right. Although the one nitpick I have will be the Danault contract probably requires a Full NTC & more term. I know seeing a 7 or 8 year contract would look scary for the future, but that might be what it takes for him to stay with the team. Or else we might see the AAV more in the range of 5 - 5.5 mill aav.
Additionally Danault mentions that the looming contract negotiation impacted him negatively and interfered with his game. If you basically guarantee him 8 years with a full no move clause - I do believe he plays his consistent playoff caliber game without having to worry about having to relocate his family. He gets to relax and spread his roots at home & I could see a world where his offensive output and playmaking ability is reinvigorated.
Glad to see Danault and Drouin being part of the team. I wish they have a success year

Thats a Cup
Ahh yes, I think a lot of teams - at least half will attempt the tampa meta next year. All they need to do is start getting medical records ready now in the offseason for players. Doctor visits and physio for "injuries" owners have the money to make that happen

How to win the cup
Yup this is actually very possible and likely to happen.
Players can take less to go to a team with the intention of winning a cup.
& Injuries do happen. Its rumored kucherov and hedman are currently playing injured.
Idon't doubt that something like this will happen. It's not illegal anyways

You don't need to get rid of any player. You still have that LTIR to use. You sure you don't want to get Toews and put him on LTIR?

Yeah this is a thing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Yes I is ridiculous that Tampa was allowed to circumvent the cap and when other teams (Toronto and Montreal) started doing it at the deadline they got warning that there would be an investigation if their players returned conveniently for the playoffs. They are over the cap by 19 Million that means they should have to play without 2 of Stamkos, Kucherov, Headman or Vasilevsky in order to be cap compliant. How far do you think they could have gotten without any 2 of those Guys? I bet they couldn't make it out of the first round!</div></div>
Montreal didn't even put anyone on LTIR until a few weeks past trade deadline. They did not attempt to go over the cap.
Maybe Toronto had a thought to do so, but I don't follow Toronto.
As for Tampa bay yes; If Kucherov is not even a member of the Tampa bay lightning, they are still a top tier team. More skill than Toronto, more speed, one of the best goaltenders and defense cores in the league. If kucherov wasn't on the ice, someone else would of been and I would think it's very likely that they would still be in the Stanley cup finals. The games would of played out differently but they'd still be in the finals.
Tampa is leagues ahead of any other team when it comes to depth, talent, speed, scoring and defense.
Not even Colorado comes close to them.
Without Kucherov listed on their roster; they would still be the top contender in the league

Unrealistic. You forgot to put Kutcherov and Hedman on LTIR. Also Tampa signs Ovechkin to 6mil per year for 2 years. They also sign Hamilton to another team friendly contract.
Then Kutcherov and Hedman return for the playoffs.
Oh you guys also sign Jones and Martinez to league minimum. And trade all your 2022 picks for Eichel. Don't worry he's also on LTIR for that neck surgery until the playoffs. :D
