Drouin is not going to come back

What is his future with the NHL? Is he done for good or just done with the Habs?

Looks about right. Although the one nitpick I have will be the Danault contract probably requires a Full NTC & more term. I know seeing a 7 or 8 year contract would look scary for the future, but that might be what it takes for him to stay with the team. Or else we might see the AAV more in the range of 5 - 5.5 mill aav.

Additionally Danault mentions that the looming contract negotiation impacted him negatively and interfered with his game. If you basically guarantee him 8 years with a full no move clause - I do believe he plays his consistent playoff caliber game without having to worry about having to relocate his family. He gets to relax and spread his roots at home & I could see a world where his offensive output and playmaking ability is reinvigorated.

Glad to see Danault and Drouin being part of the team. I wish they have a success year

I think they are either going trade him for young RD or expose him to Seattle or buyout him he can't take pressure that come from playing in montreal it sucks.

Lookin good! I’m still not sure that re-signing Armia is feasible, since Danault will need more $ and term, as well as keeping bonus overages down next year when we need to re-sign Suzuki is extremely important. Otherwise this looks good, although I think Seattle only takes that deal if they like Kulak and had already decided not to choose Allen.

Drouin is too good of a player to buy out or expose. He is a good second line LW, or in the right situation a good 1st line LW. You don't give that away for nothing or sit on dead money in this cap world. If he doesn't want to play in the NHL anymore then he retires, if he doesn't want to play for the habs then you keep him until a decent offer comes. His 5.5 cap hit isn't going to really hurt them until Suzuki's nezt contract kicks in. I know people don't like Drouin as a player, but just because you don't like him doesn't mean GMs around the league agree. Its not easy getting goals in the NHL and if he is in the right situation he could excel.

None that we can get for as cheap as Allen is signed for. And none that would sign up to be Price’s backup when they could be a 1A/1B elsewhere.

100% agree with you but MTL does not have time to sit on him Price and Weber someone other guys are not getting younger they need to boost there roster and Drouin is good dont get me wrong but there are some UFA that can do a lot better then him so use that money for other player that can do more. Look where was Drouin this playoff run?

Noo where! We didn't need him so why should we keep him? We need Big LW play with Zuke & Cole

I’m curious who you’re referring to. Since the way I see it:

Out of the habs league: (whether by money or what role they’d be willing to play)
- Grubauer
- Smith
- Rask
- Driedger
- Andersen

Possible:
- Ullmark
- Raanta
- Bernier
- Brossoit
- Rittich
- Reimer

Atrocious goalies:
- Rinne
- Halak
- Dubnyk
- Elliott

Raanta was great 2 years ago, but terrible this season, he also has injury problems, could cost more money, and might not want to be Montréal’s backup. Everyone else that’s achievable isn’t as good as Allen.

I don’t think the specifics of who the 7th D is matters. Switch him with Merrill and it makes sense.

They aren’t signing to be a backup, nor are they signing for less than Allen.

I think it would matter to Forbort, he probably wouldn't sign somewhere where he would be relegated to 7th D.

Seattle will be good team its crazy and yes they will both sign spilt job then its worth it like why do they need Allen is there a goalie that they need to pay over 7-8 million on market ?

I didn't say don't get rid of him. I said he is too good to buy out or lose for nothing. It would be very poor asset management to let him go for nothing or to buy him out and have a dead cap hit.

Drouin was actually one of their better forwards in the bubble playoffs, and there is no way to prove he couldn't have helped this playoff run. I know they could have used his playmaking in the series against Tampa

Well now I see what the problem is. You were talking about Seattle’s goalies, when I thought you were talking about Montréal replacing Allen with UFAs. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I agree with you about Seattle having other options they could potentially look to.
