Freeing cap space, while also getting a #1 center and leaving room for the kids in the process is not a bad thing in my opinion.

You can do most of what you said without losing value on every trade.

And paying a premium for cap space, just to turn around and have 13M in dead space makes no sense. Cap space is only as useful as what you use it on. Using it on nothing means there's no reason to have it.

That's just a lot for Hertl, even extended. Hertl will be 28, has had much better linemates than Fiala, and isn't as dynamic (I love him as a player, but just my opinion).

But he is a #1 center. You have to give to get. I'd rather trade Fiala and a 1st to get Hertl than sell the farm for an Eichel.

The Parise buyout would require a lot of that cap space the next season, and I believe you can't have him stick around and be unhappy in that locker room without causing a divide.

But the point is you DON'T have to give Fiala AND a 1st. You can give to get while not giving way too much.

Hertl is more Dynamic than I think you realize, he needs better players around him and he can make your 1st line, this is fair and I think both teams would consider it.

with the amount of cap space you have I would hold on to Parise for at the very least one more year and buy him out only when you need the extra cash, not when you have plenty.

Maybe Fiala is more dynamic than you realize. Similar production (94 in 114, 68 per 82 for Fiala, 79 in 98, 66 per 82 for Hertl) the last two seasons, but Hertl's been playing with guys like Meier, Kane at even strength, and Fiala has been playing with guys like Hartman, Koivu. Hertl would be the top center here, but it's not even a sure thing that he's better than Fiala, let alone worth adding a 1st on top.

Not to mention they both need contracts long term, but Hertl has a variety of injury concerns and is like 3-4 years older.

I watch a good amount of Sharks hockey since my old roommate was a huge Sharks fan and I've continued to follow them, and sorry but I disagree that he's a more dynamic player than Fiala if that's what you're trying to argue. I like him a lot, and he is dynamic, but in my opinion Fiala is better/more dynamic. Fiala doesn't have the points to show for it since he was stuck with depth players for the entire year.

You do, but again this is way too much for him. I wouldn't do Fiala for Hertl in a 1 for 1 even if Hertl came extended. Hertl is a fantastic player, but Fiala is a better asset in my opinion (due to ability, age, and team control) and the position Hertl plays isn't justifiable enough to move Fiala for even in a 1 for 1 with an extended Hertl.

No chance I'd bring back a guy that called being healthy scratched for legit reasons a "sideshow" and let him be around the team when he's definitely going to be scratched again.

That’s terrible value for fiala. Greenway and a 1st plus a prospect would be plenty for hertl. Certainly shouldn’t be fiala.

Fiala and the 1st are the starting point for Hert otherwise no point in trading him.
