It's gonna cost COL more than that. Also, say goodbye to Landeskog if they make a move for him, and I can't see MacKinnon taking a hometown discount with everyone around him making more. Honestly I don't think Eichel is a good fit for this team.

Well thanks for taking time to put this trade together and allowing us to comment on the trade.

I agree with Gmonwy that based on the overall assets coming back to the Sabres that GM Adams would say no but I do think you have a basis for a potential deal.

The first thing I would recommend is get rid of Ottawa in this Eichel scenario. If you need to make a deal with Ottawa then do it but do not use Eichel in order to make the deal.

Second Barron is a very good start but Compher can not be the 2nd major piece of the deal or if you want the 3rd major piece of the deal. His game is that of a solid 3rd line type of player. I do not see him being a top six contributor and at that level of salary not worth it to the Sabres.

Here is what I think GM Adams would be looking for in exchange for Eichel & the 2021 Colorado 6th Round Pick & 2022 Buffalo 7th Round Pick :

Barron
Foudy
Bowers
2021 Colorado 1st Round Pick

If you need to jettison some salary than put Compher in the deal.

If you bring Eichel in you'd most likely need to move Kadri out, I watched him struggle as 3C on Toronto and I think it'd really hurt the Avs if he was given that role. I think Compher would be a great fit in Buffalo, they drafted him and may even lose Reinhart along with Eichel.
I'm certain Eichel will be gone before October. The last time I can think of a similar situation was Seguin in 2013 with the Bruins. I like the deal you offered, it's really similar to what Seguin went for. Might need to add Compher and another pick if other teams are going all in for Eichel.

You are know starting to think more strategically and a smart move by a GM would be to move in now and strike a deal for Eichel. GM Adams is willing to wait until the season starts and then look at October or November. I do not think that Adams is risking anything to wait as I think the attractiveness of Eichel will only increase the closer he is to returning and producing on the ice.

Therefore a cunning GM should not have to give Adams his Kings Ransom for Eichel but the GM that sees it as an opportunity now and offers say 3 Equivalent First Rounders and included in that is the top prospect in the organization a deal can be struck.

If Adams waits he allows Eichel to reestablish a higher value than current mark is willing to pay. The fact that the Sabres will have paid a portion of his current salary once the season has started also increases the expected return.

A cunning GM for this example Vegas:

1. Glass or Krebs
2. 2021 First Round Pick
3. Alex Tuch

or

1. Glass or Krebs
2. The first Round pick in 2021
3. The New Jersey 2nd Round Pick in 2021
4. Fleury
5. Paul Cotter

The Sabres send:

1. Eichel
2. Retain 25% of his salary
3. 2021 3rd Round Pick of Montreal

Since you are looking for the Av's:

1. Eichel
2. 25% salary retained
3. Montreal 3rd Rd pick in 2021

for

1. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2021
2. New Jersey 2nd Round Pick 2021
3. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2022
4. Kadri
5. Foudy
6. Barron

The point I am trying to make is GM's that wait end up allowing Eichel to take the risk out of the deal which they can currently leverage. GM Adams hand only gets stronger as the season wears on.

Eichel would cost Colorado Newhook or Byram, probably two firsts and another piece.

Maybe, but like wagsnags is saying it depends on when the deal is made. Eichel wants to leave, his health is uncertain, and both of those are a huge hit to his trade value. I don't think he's gonna go for all that much unless he's traded near the deadline, which is unlikely because it seems like he doesn't want to play another game in a sabers uniform.
