As if the penguins are taking on the albatross of a contract in Marner.
There is no way. TOR would have to retain 50%.

At 10% retain every team in the NHL would jump at Marner, he is only overpaid by 1.4 million $. if he was signed for $9.5 million we wouldn't be talking about that.

Dubas hurt the Leafs by retaining 12% of that Kessel contract and it's still burning a hole in the Leafs Cap 6 years later.

The Pens have Burke now so the Leafs can offer him Sabourin for that same package return.

Burke isn't making the deals.
I think it's funny that you think TOR got a steal. Wait till McCann doesn't do **** for 20 straight games. Then you'll be asking yourself, why is he out there.

McCann will be RFA so at least he has future value, Dubas normally gets players to the UFA point, minus the Dermott bridge contract, which Seattle will enjoy.

I use to call McCann the Magic man. Because he frequently disappears......for long stretches at a time.
My guess is TOR trades him the second they realize this.

Anyone expecting him to be a cheap replacement for Hyman will be disappointed, he is more in line of replacing A. Johnnson, another streaky bottom 6 forward.

this is exactly it. He never showed to be what the flashes were. If he would have been more consistent it would have been different. Hell they would have protected him.
But he just wasn't. I think the playoffs are what did him in. Year after year of really not producing. He didn't have an excuse this year. It's not like Carter wasn't a good player and frankly he was out played by Gaudreau. That was kind of the final nail in the coffin for him.

Dubas doesn't watch hockey to know any of this, he just studies the analytics for his decision making.
