Description
OK SO AFTER HAVING DISCUSSED WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE HERE ON THE BOARDS, HERE IS A NEW PROPOSED STRATEGY (HAVEN'T SEEN IT HERE YET MYSELF)

SO IF GM RF's STRATEGY IS TO SPEND AS LITTLE CAP SPACE AS POSSIBLE, HERE IS HOW HE STARTS.

I SELECTED THE 10 RFA's WITH THE MOST EXPENSIVE "DRAFT CAP HITS".
AS WE KNOW, THE TEAM ONLY HOLD THE RIGHTS OF THE PLAYERS AS LONG AS SAID PLAYERS ARE NOT SIGNED BY THE CLUB. THEREFORE THE CLUB DOES NOT HAVE ANY COMMITTED MONEY's TOWARDS THESE PLAYERS.

IN TOTAL, RF CAN "BLOAT" HIS TEAM CAP HIT BY 17.7M WITH THESE 10 RFA's.

NOW THAT IS NOT AN INSIGNIFICANT AMOUNT...

THERE ARE 4 PLAYERS THAT "COMPETE" FOR THAT LAST SPOT OF LOWEST OF THE HIGHEST "DRAFT CAP HITS".

JUST ONE OF THESE FOUR MUST BE CHOSEN, SO IT MIGHT COME DOWN TO POSITION NEEDS FOR THE DRAFT.
AT 925K, THE 4 RFA's ARE:
BRAYDEN BURKE (LW) ARIZONA
DENNIS GILBERT (LD) COLORADO
COLTON POINT (G) DALLAS
CAL FOOTE (RD) TAMPA

I WILL CONTINUE THINKING ON HOW THE REST OF THIS STRATEGY IS TO IMPLEMENTED.

FOR STARTERS, TO REACH THE MINIMUM DRAFT CAP HIT AS PER THE RULES (48.9M), WE NEED TO SPEND AT LEAST 31.2M FOR THE REMAINING 20 SELECTIONS LEFT.

THAT'S AN AVERAGE OF EXACTLY 1.56M PER PLAYER

LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING GENIUS, OR ABSOLUTELY CRAZY... LOL

*SINCE I NEED TO HAVE 10 "SIGNED" PLAYERS TO PUBLISH, I SIGNED THEM FOR THEIR DRAFT CAP HITS

There’s a cap floor that you have to reach you know…. What’s the point of being so cheap?

Sorry, can't make everyone happy I guess. Won't be rewriting it.

I was playing around with a team similar to this. I was going to add 1 goalie (Quick/Murray), 2 centers (RyJo, Henrique, Danault (signed during the 3 day window), or Domi), and 2 d-men (Ghost, Petterson) with higher cap hits.

Alot of the discussion's I've had on this in the last 24 hours are trending towards RF would be seeking to having as little spent cap space as possible, to afterwards "bleed" the other teams that are desperate for cap relief...
For example, instead of simply selecting Johansen at 8M in the draft, he'll negotiate a package with DP where Seattle probably takes Johansen with retained salary and also gets additionnal assets from the preds. No other team either has the cap space to pull this off, or has the available spending money...

I mean look, Nashville is willing to just give Johansen. St-louis the same with Tarasenko. Philly is also "giving" James van Riemsdyk. The teams are dying for cap space...

Therefore, the team out of the Seattle expansion draft will nowhere be near the team that will be iced on the opener...

Being blunt aside, I thought it would be easier to read. Always find that the letters are small on my laptop screen...

So apology offered.

Technically his NHL rights still belong to Detroit, so if Seattle selects him, that's 1M less that they have to spend on a real contract for the expansion draft...

You might as well pick Filppula then, Djoos have to be offered a qualifying offer or he turns UFA.

Yup, I realized afterwards about the qualifying offers. I've adapted my scenario.
