Description
Would this work?
Gives STL a strong battle for the number 1 position heading into the playoffs. Masons numbers are slightly Better than Allen's this season and a new surrounding might push them number higher
Philly get a 1st round pick (20-25) probably and a goalie they can expose come expansion time and be able to protect Stolarz
Agostino for a 3rd seems fair and balanced out the cap

Big no thanks! Allen is much better than Mason and the Blues are committed to him. Mason isn't worth a 1st and I believe they wouldn't be interested in giving Agostino up right now.

It's a good thought. The question is, should the Blues sacrifice a 1st RDP to solidify the goaltending situation for the remainder of the season? When they traded away Elliott, they committed all-in to Allen. It hasn't been the smoothest transition, but IMO the worst possible thing to do would be to add a 1B to the situation right now. As we saw this week, Allen is finding his game and is capable of being the outright starter on this team. Bringing in a new guy would shatter the confidence he's building.

The approach to this TDL and beyond is looking more and more like STL will sell, not buy. GM Armstrong has been outspoken about building for the future. I don't think this trade works.

Woah woah woah...if you think Allen is "much better than Mason" then you need to give your head a shake!

My bad Allen slightly does have better numbers this year but if you do an average over the last 3 seasons mason is the better of the 2 and has a much weaker defence in front of him than Allen, so to say Allen is much better is bias. I'm sure you would have one of the best 1- 2 heading into the playoffs (both capable starters)

Thanks for the reply it's good to hear someone reject a proposal due to the direction the team is going and time frame and looking to a few years from now, rather than say it's a rubbish trade and not a chance of this happening, our player is better than yours etc. etc.

Mase isn't even elite or great but I would take him over Allen 10 times out of 10. Allen has a career .917 SV% at even strength compared to Mason who has a .921 SV%. Plus, we haven't even compared the blue lines that Mason has had to the one that STL has put in front of Allen. Both guys are struggling this year and I agree the trade doesn't make much sense for STL but you can't say Allen is better than MAse and prvoide zero justification..

I'd take Allen right now and for the future. I may have gotten a little carried away with him being "much better" but he wouldn't do anything that Allen can't do for this Blues team.

That's fair enough didn't realize Allen had picked his game up with and average over .950 in the last 5 games and only allowing 7 goals against. But you've got to agree mason would be an upgrade over Hutton, if anything was to happen to Allen.
What if we change the 1st to a 2nd and drop the 3rd in return from Philly? Are we closer and would you make it. I'd also retain 50% of masons contact.

Mason is definitely better than Hutton, but I don't think a goalie is the Blues most pressing need at this point. I honestly expect them to just trade Shattenkirk to get better for next year and see how far the team can go as is.
